A dose of reality here. Lopez is pitching. Five runs might not be enough today.

I think there's a chance it fucked his eye up profoundly. That wasn't on the nose and he was bleeding like stuffed pig.

Can you bleed that much from your eye? Genuine question. I hope to never find out, but that was like a ridiculous movie scene.

Also, props to José for not being an idiot and chasing the guy back towards home. Apparently Harrison isn’t quite as brilliant as Baez.

You can bleed a lot in general from the head. Lot of blood vessels up there.

He's a different pitcher. We used to joke about "Coop can fix him" but it seems like it's real to say "Katz can fix him." He literally fixed Giolito and Rodon, 2 guys most had written off.

Watch his motion since coming up, it's different from what he used to throw.

Yeah you cant really base where it was on the blood. I cut my forehead open as a kid and that thing was bleeding all over the place. There are a lot of blood vessels and they are close to the skin.

He has a much more compact and repeatable delivery now.

Bob Melvin was on the 94 Sox. Had no idea.

I'm not ready to declare him fixed yet, but he has shown enough that I want to see more of him to see if we really have something here.

He always had the potential.

New Lopez looks better than Giolito this season.

Absolutely on both counts.

But he has been much better then expected and his mechanics have a lot to do with it.

He was/is weak mentally. Like Rodon. Maybe Katz works on the arms and the mind.

Well this is just some very encouraging stuff out of Reynaldo Lopez.

I still wouldn't trust him long term in the rotation, but as a spot starter/long reliever he seems like he's figured it out.

Most of the time he's going to give you fifty or so damn fine pitches. But once you're past that threshold all bets are off.

Exactly. Being a "bullpen day" starter or a playoff long relief guy is perfect for him right now.

And maybe he really is fixed and you can start to rely on him more.

That'd be a pretty nice surprise.

I think its a pretty sure thing that he has developed into something useful at the major league level. Which is nice, because this time last year it was looking like time to stick a fork in him.

Nobody talking about encasing his glove in plexiglass.

And it's been a couple good games.

I mean saying he's an effective long reliever and spot starter is hardly pencilling him for the Cy Young.

I'm just saying he belongs on an MLB roster. Considering where he was, that is something
