I woulda pulled dalton after the well thrown/placed 60/40 ball that went for the 70yd TD. Instead you keep him.out there, get 4th and 8 around their 40-45, and what does he do?
Exactly what we used to give mitch shit for: lockimg onto his first read/WR and seeing that hes supposed to.take a 90 dehree turn right into.the soft spot of a zone fefense (sirrounded by 4 bills) but WR falls and one if the 3 nearby bills casually runs up and INTs ut. So even if WR didnt fall and got there he was going to be hit by 1-2 bills right as he caught it, and mireover in a 2min drill, even on 4th and 8! You ideally wanna do better rhan a surefire catch Nd hit/down/TO.
SERIOUSLY rhis is what we got on.mitcj for. And after a decent firat half where he didnt look terrible (unless the picket collapsed and he was ohysically unable to execute the right decisions he was making) you see rhar this bears team.NEEDS fields to.be in there ro wither instinctively move a few yards ro make a throw when the ruah is collapsing the pocket around him.on 3rd snd 13 (instwad dalton rot rid of the ball just before an impromptu game of smear the queer and it got batted up.in the air) and mot obly will that escapability help.you maybe find someone on that same 3rd and 13 play, it could change coverage/passrush as they have to account for fields taking off for 15yds if part of the field gets cleared out.
On the othet side of the ball the bills offensive playcalling is pantsing our defense again, and when you look.at what theyre asking mitch to do theyre giving him.easy throws to open guys with plenty.of time... and even tho.mitch nearly hit the WR in the face on his 1st TD and he did roomie kyle orton high.pass to dude along thebaifelines on rhe bills 20sex drill, by and large he did what was asked of him and was largely a passenger on the bills express, wgo absolutely rolled us.
GO FIGURE the bears broadcast only talks about dalton as a rexord setting bengal.and not a failed dallas backup wgo couldnt take ovsr a proper offemse and steady the ship ro qhere, IIRC, .500 would have won you the divisin. And on 4th and 8 dalton literally locked on to his firat rwad #1 Wr who qas due to.cut inside to a soft spot between.4 defenders in the bills zone and forced a throw there for the eazieat INT ever. The kind of decision making and exwcution we ostensibly got eid of mitch for.
Watching tnis i think mitch did the right thing to GTFO of here take a lowball gif with avrwal offemse with real playcalling ans see a real QB in action. Maybe he gets a chance and tbrives like today for a game or 2 and pulls a matt flynn contract... but watching mutch be a perfectavly serviceable QB who didnt lead the charhe but sinply "managw the game" to an eazy 34-6 halftime lwad = why xouldnt we have kept mutch here for 1yr/5mil and had him.in the dalton role?
Prolly cuz he wouldnt take that from.the beara and at this poinr in his career he wanted ro be around an up and coming thriving offense to.learn the craft from superior coaches/coaching to what we have and then hopw dir a matt flynn contract.
That said plenty of crap.balls thrown to open WRs who had to jumo.lunge or adjust to.get mitch's passes so thats our guy, but still put him in a professionL.offemse that knows how to call plays and he can ve a serviceable passenger on the offemse express..... which is what we all hoped he could do with wunderkind nagy (afternwe realuzed making multiple reads + accurate throws weren't his dorte) and lpok.at the results here. Loom what mitch can do if he's not surrounded by stubborn set in their ways idiots (how many 1st down runs 2nd down.semi/bootleg/ish PAs have ae seen in thus firat half? Too many ro count.
His receiver fell while making his cut; the ball was already out of Dalton's hand. Not his fault at all.
