Congratulations. Now you can worship the dark lord in the den instead of hiding your goat blood shrine in the corner of the basement by the crawlspace entrance.

I am a couple years away from this and it already bothers me. I am not sure how I will handle it when it actually arrives.

Teenage years get you set up for the feeling of peace when they're gone. 0-12 yrs and after 23 are when the relationship is at near its best. For me anyway. It's quite nice when there came a day when the 25 or 26 yr old realizes that the old man actually ISN'T talking out of his ass.

I think it is more than likely that I will have some difficulties. I expect them to be delayed and hit me in odd times. I imagine my worry scale will be amplified a bit more than it is now when my daughter is running late coming home from work. I'm not foolish enough to think it will be easy. I still think it will be tougher for my wife however.

Our oldest has his own place nearby, the middle boy lives in Virginia, and the girl is full time at college year-around, so it kinda like empty.

This coming Saturday our oldest gets married, and the line from the service popped into my head at work today, about "The man shall leave his Father and Mother and unite with His Wife to become one..." or similar.

He's been the easiest kid to raise ever, and I love him a ton. I was really surprised it hit me that hard to think he won't be my kid anymore, even though he will be. I don't want him to leave. Yet, I do want him to leave.

I’ve got 2 of 3 off to school now. 1 wasn’t too different.

But this is. House feels very empty now.

Won't be long. 9-12 months. Better hurry up and buy cardano and ammo.

Next Sunday my stepson leaves. My wife will be very sad, I will be quite happy. He just left here this morning. Most weeks he is only here 2 nights a week. When here he eats, sleeps and plays video games. Every single time he leaves his dirty laundry laying in his disaster of a room and dirty dishes in the sink. I have tried to "train" him for the past 6 years to no avail. I now just leave it and let his mother clean up after him. I won't miss it in the least. Hoping that living on his own will help him mature and when he is a bit older we can have a different type relationship as an adult. He is still very heavily influenced by his father, and while I am not a perfect role model that guy is even less so with financial and life choices.

I'd say 7 in 10 calls where the thermostat was the issue was a nest.
Customers love them, until they don't, and technicians hate them.

I still have a while for this. I sobbed when I dropped my oldest off at college. The family still laughs at me for that. I feel no shame over it. I told them, just wait to see how I am on your wedding day.

Yep. When we moved, we took the Nest with us.....it completely failed with our furnace. Wouldn't work at all.
Bought an Ecobee....much, much, much better product.

Back to the OP. I think Nas hit it. Kind of like driving and HS graduation, I find it more an exciting time than a sad time. My step-daughter....she's almost moved out, but not really. By the spring she should be fully out. My oldest son.....If he gets to a point in the next year to move out, I'll be thrilled. My youngest is a HS Senior. He'll be off to college next year and I just don't worry about him. He's the type of kid that's moving out and never coming home. It's fine, but like my wife's 2 oldest, I find it more exciting and enjoyable to see them out and surviving as adults than I do sad that they're not home.

I have went thru the wedding deal with my oldest and it did not hit me nearly as hard as I expected. I think once I got past the high school graduation/college starting thing it was a lot easier.

But I understand, being an emotional guy can be hard with kids and their transitions.

I was texting with three dads yesterday.

Two of us were on our 7th drop off, the other was on his first.

The guy on his first was fighting back tears in an airport. I told him to put on his sunglasses, find a corner and let it go. He was like, "You guys really cry?"

And we both responded "Yes."

It's good to be human. No shame in feeling sorrow when your kids leave. We left on Thursday AM, and flew back late Saturday night. It really hit me when I walked to the top of the stairs and was faced with his empty bedroom. I closed the door as fast as I could.

AND IT SHALL REMAIN THAT WAY
