i've been looking for a subaru for my child's first car. i wanted something safe with AWD for our winters. i've not been looking that hard because she can't drive herself anywhere for another 6 months and the market is crazy. one was very nice but it was driven by an old man who apparently wets himself frequently so the car smelled awful.

So a guy who is dating one of my cousins i hear just bought a brand new outback and was set to donate or do something with his old one. so i call him and he's like it needs front end work and a new exhaust system. I start going through it looking at all these other very minor things wrong with it. and he goes i'll tell you what. i was gonna donate it. just pay me what ever the tax break i would of gotten on it and we are good. its a 2005 with 125k miles on it. i can do the exhaust and based on experience it has a bad front bearing.

the best part is my daughter goes..."awe a station wagon???" when i picked her up at work in it. right after she said that, i reved the mufflerless engine. was a good time.

I rode the high school bus through senior year. Never had my own car until after college.

I had an Outback rental this summer for a week out west. Was a really good car. Except the a/v screen. They really screwed that up with a bad angle. Can’t see crap when the sun shines.

Very popular out west when I lived there. Pretty good on snow packed roads and such with plenty of room for Judy and Lisa to haul around their pack of 5 rescue dogs.

We have a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek. I prefer driving a pickup truck for a variety of reasons, but in terms of a regular car, the Crosstrek is easily my favorite car I've ever owned. Woke or not...they just drive real nice and have the best AWD performance in the snow.

my father and my FIL refuse to buy anything that isn't explicitly recommended by Consumer Reports so when i told them about this they were both VERY happy.

My mom has had Forresters for about 20 years. My husband has an outback and I make fun of him all the time. He loves it. Same with our neighbor. They are pretty good cars.

Looked seriously at the Subaru Outback and also at the Ascent before finally deciding on the Honda Passport. Hard to argue
against the reviews, performance and maintenance records from Subaru. My wife really loves her Hondas and the Passport is
just about the right size SUV for us for trips and hauling my golf clubs and other stuff around town.

Our neighbor had a Subaru Outback and literally drove it into the ground. It was solid for like 20 years.

I've gotten Rav4s for the kids. It sits high and has good sightlines for new drivers and isn't too large to park normally.

Also, my oldest had one and got, ironically, T-Bone'd as he turned. It was enough to roll the car in a residential area. The guy had to be going 60. That road is notorious for people in the morning acting like it is an expressway. This was about 5 years ago.

I told my son never to take that turn....but...a story for another time.

Long story short - he got hit directly on the driver door by a car doing about 50-60, rolled, air bags deployed and he was essentially uninjured. He walked away. Went to the hospital and had a potential lung collapse issue but they could not confirm it.

The car was totaled. My son was fine.

My MIL has an Outback up in Milwaukee, I've driven it a few times. Much better vision out of it than the Envoy she piled up before that.

A coworker had the mystery Subaru compression loss on his sedan, but was able to replace the engine himself with a Japanese donor.



My reaction would have been far less appropriate than the engine rev. I'm getting pissed off for you right now. Sell the Subi and give the money to JORR, he can fix his bike and give his wife's ratty-seat flyer to your daughter.

I'd rather ride JORR's ratty seated bike than a wagon or mini van. A cheap sedan would be fine.

My wife likes her Forester but I think she's had too many small issues with it to call it a very good car. I at least enjoy being a Subaru owner considering the type of people who criticize the brand. I sure as fuck don't want to drive the brand they associate with.

My oldest child, first son, got married this past weekend. She is a terrific young lady, gorgeous, super-grounded and common sense, very conservative, a practicing Occupational Therapist with her Masters degree, all you could ask for in a Daughter-in-Law. She even does a good job feigning not to be disgusted by me.

The weekend went off with very few issues (see the Complain thread, soon), we had a great time and they made it to Mexico without problems. As far as we know, everyone who celebrated with us is safe, as well.

Even though I was only marginally involved in the planning, I am glad it is over.

Did anyone give her problems when she transitioned into being female.

I had another very vivid dream:

I was walking home from the train in a snow storm. A guy in a gray suit and fedora offered me a ride. I got in the car and got a good look at him. He was the spitting image of Joe Orr. I said he looked very familiar and asked if he was related to Joe (I did use his christian name, cause Joe and I are tight). He replied semi angrily "he's my twin brother. We haven't talked in years and you knowing him makes me question you."

I offered to pay him for the ride but he declined. He then drove me by a food stand that you could only access through an alley. He said "i'll tell you what, you can buy me something here". He ordered three souvlaki sandwiches and told me to get one as they were the best souvlaki in the world. The line was kind of long and it was snowing. When I finally got to the window, the guy shut it and said they were now closed. His look was straight from a corner greek diner: greying black bushy hair, mustache and one of those paper hats. I begged the guy to open just for one more order as I was repaying a guy for a favor. He allowed it. He rang it up and said "cash only". I fumbled around in my wallet and had no cash. The man in the window was loudly ridiculing me and all the guys standing around eating their sandwich were laughing at me.

The laughs stopped suddenly and Joe's twin stomped up to the window. The man in the window suddenly became very polite asking what he could get today for Mr. Orr. Joe's twin pointed and said "he's with me". Joe's twin looked at me frustrated when he told him I didn't have cash. He turned to the guy in the window, who made a gesture to Joe's twin that it was "on the arm". Joe thanked him and took the food. The group of men parted for us as we walked back to the car.
