Took our oldest to college for the first time last week. I was good until it was time to actually say goodbye and leave his apartment to go to the airport. Starting crying. Gets better each day, but really strange not having him around the house.

My kids just went to school this week. Had a few afternoon delights, can't imagine how great it will be when they are both at college.

I've only seen my dad cry twice and one was college drop off. Not even on my wedding day. He said he was handing me over to somebody he knew would take good care of me.

My youngest asked me if he can go to Kanye thursday. I was considering it until he told me the chaperone was his friend's older brother who has totaled three cars and shown poor judgement in many other ways.

I had one leave the nest a week ago. I lingered for a day or so after drop off to make sure everything was as comfortable as possible. I was perfectly fine with the goodbyes until my daughters embraced and started crying. Then I started crying. Nose running tears. They came out of nowhere.

My youngest daughter leaves next year and then my oldest son will follow a few years from then. I have 14 years to be completely empty. Then I won't need a mini refrigerator in my room.

The first week without my oldest child has been interesting. When she was home, she would literally text me even if she was in the same room as me. There were days that I wouldn't even see her unless we had a chance encounter in the kitchen. Now she's calling and video chatting throughout the day to tell me what's going on.
