I guess that my dislike for most of the ancillary characters and lack of interest in the last few seasons explain why I haven't had any interest in this prequel or in rewatching the series for decades.

For me, the rewatching was a mistake. Other than Christopher, all other characters became more uninteresting.

I think that hits the nail on the head

Totally agree the final 2 seasons went pretty south in quality.
Still...this could be very good. I'll watch it.

I'm probably going to watch it. I'm sick of news and an increasing number of sports shows.

First season is a little weird to go back and watch again. It's a reminder that The Sopranos basically invented what we know now as "prestige TV," and that they did it as they went along. The cinematography is much brighter and warmer (by the end, everything looks black and blue), and there's much more of a dramedy feel. Everything is Sopranos as we know it by about the time Richie shows up, and the first season isn't bad, just different. It was still 1999, after all.

You started it to early. Movie doesn’t come out for three more months. September is the proper time for a rewatch.

Twin Peaks invented prestige TV it was just a decade too early

I never watched Twin Peaks but you’re probably right.

Kind of but not quite. Maybe a prototype. Twin Peaks was more a subversion of soap operas and other conventional television forms than something altogether new.

Mike, I recommend the first season, but not the second, though I think Netflix just lost the rights and I don't know who has them now.

I think a lot of people are gonna be disappointed that it isn't a Tony prequel.

El Camino was a lot more like Better Call Saul than it was Breaking Bad. It's slower, but I like that about BCS.

and yes, I think this prequel will be good.

Yeah, that's why I find Better Call Saul pretty average. It's so slow and nothing happens.

Thank you. I got shit about by the Breaking Bad fanboys when I said the same thing about Better Call Saul the first 2 seasons. Season 1 you can basically skip and you won't miss anything. I think last season was better because the story accelerated finally.

The worst is between Saul and the girlfriend lawyer. They have no chemistry at all. Those scenes just drag on and on.

The only problem will be people complaining about it not being a Tony centered movie
