Well Rodgers hadn't played February football before that Hanie pick, and hasn't since that season. So he needed it for sure.

GB is fool's gold. Ten year drought and yet there's always this hype about them.

The hype is about exactly where it should be. Most outlets have them as the 4-5th best team, which is about right.

And it won't amount to anything in the post-season, yet again.

We'll see. I doubt you are a psychic. Posts like these just tell me you're scared of seeing yet another GB SB.

it's been more than a decade under the same QB and all he's got to show for it are a few car insurance commercials and a Jeopardy guest host gig. I think it's safe to say GB fans can look for other things to do on Super Bowl weekend for the 12th year in a row.

Winning a SB is hard. Ironically, Bears fans on this board act like it's easy. It's generally not for guys not named Brady.

Look at the score in the gif. He didn't need it. But it is a fun memory.

The final score was 21-14, so yeah, he needed it.

Winning a Super Bowl is pretty difficult. However, it becomes much easier when you have one of the greatest QBs of our generation (if not one of the best ever) taking snaps. The fact that Rodgers has played in as many Super Bowls as Rex Grossman, Jake Delhomme, Jared Goff, Kerry Collins, and Nick Foles is as much of an indictment on the Packers as it is himself.

At least Favre made it back to the big game. That will always put him ahead of Rodgers if he never makes another SB appearance as a starter.

This is just dumb. But yeah, keep thinking Kerry Collins and Dan Marino are the same.

The Bears scored and were on the move again when Hanie threw another INT. I guess I was wrong. Rodgers needed a third string QB to throw TWO interceptions to make his lone Super Bowl

The Bears never led, and were never in danger of taking the lead, in that game. But yeah, sure.

I can’t read all this. It’s been a long day.

#1 is McMahon. If you disagree, you didn’t watch those games.

Great D, no question. But they didn’t do shit without him.

Thursday night Minnesota game.

He doesn't remember playing and you're old. I believe the list is for QB's after the SB season. He didn't play many more games in Chicago and their formula penalizes the way you played the position back then.

Hey youngster, I think they’re counting it. And they’re wrong.

2. Jim McMahon
Bears TD points: 44 (67, 2nd)
Bears wins points: 46
Career AV points: 40
Bonus points: 20 (5 points for making the Pro Bowl, 5 for winning a Super Bowl, double points for both happening with the Bears)
Total: 150

McMahon won a Super Bowl for the Bears. That’s pretty much all you need to know. Statistically, he wasn’t that great; during his lone Pro Bowl season, in 1985, he ranked 19th in the league in touchdowns and 20th in passing yardage. But he was the quarterback for the most beloved period in franchise history. Between 1984 and 1987, the Bears won 22 straight regular-season games started by McMahon, an NFL record at the time.

Fair enough. (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky falls out of my top 5 and I'll put McMahon #2 behind Grossman.

In using McMahon's passing stats, analyzers fail to understand that the Bear ran the ball at will behind an OL that featured five multi time pro bowl players. Suhey was a few yards shy of 500 and more than 4 YPC in 85. He and Walter combined for over 2,000. Their best WR was a one route track star.

He was a leader on a team full of incredibly strong personalities. That says a lot.

He was.

I think Les was 17 or 18 when he started working with Lujack.

I’d also add QB stats in general from that era -even into the 90’s- aren’t viewed thru the proper lense if one is jaded by today’s inflated stats.

For example, John Elway’s lifetime completion % is around 56%.. don’t like Elway, ok, Dan Marino (who had 2 HoF WR‘s) is around 59%. Montana has one of the best overall from that era and his is 63%

Thing is, you could beat the shit out of the QB back then, guys played large portions or even entire games with concussions (ask Kurt Warner how his Giants years were effected by this), you could also rough up the guys he was throwing to. That’s going to drastically effect the stats from that era if using today’s stats as the bar.

McMahon played hurt quite a bit, some of it was his fault due to his willingness to seek out contact or unwillingness to avoid it.. but he was much better than his stats imply

One of the reasons the Bears had a great defense '84 thru '86 is because they led the league in rushing so the defense didn't face as many possessions. I don't think its a coincidence that the defense struggled at times in '87 the same time when the running game struggled (as the Bears tried to shoe horn both Payton and Anderson in the same backfield and had no true fullback on the field.)

McMahon didn't put up big numbers in '85 partly because of the running game and also the fact he missed the equivalent of 4 games. But anyone who watched those Bear teams knew he was more than just a passenger. I believe he was in the top 5 of passer ratings in'84 before he hurt his kidney and was top ten in NFL in '85 and '87.

McMahon was the unused weapon.

It's true, they built a running machine behind that line that lasted for a decade.

But, when they needed it, McMahon took care of business. He also ran the huddle and would audible to the correct play. They led the league in scoring.

He wasn't a Dan Marino stat machine. But that wasn't what they needed.

There's a reason they won 20+ games in a row when he could get on the field.
