One of my favorite scenes from Wonder Years. That show ruled!

One of my favorite episodes was when Kevin (Fred Savage) was trading baseball cards with his best friend Paul, and they have a falling out because Paul stubbornly wouldn't give up his Willie McCovey. Kevin then befriends another kid, thinking he'll have better success trading with his new friend. The kid says, "I'll trade you my Willie Mays card for your Ron Swoboda." And Kevin says, "that's not a fair trade." And the kid says, "OK, I'll throw in Willie McCovey, too." Kevin then realizes how much he misses Paul.

I think it probably would have been better if they let this show stand on its own legs. That's not how the entertainment industry works anymore.

The Wonder Years is one of my all time favorites. I'll definitely check out the new version and see how it is. I noticed over the weekend that the original is on Hulu and watched a couple of the first
episodes. I've seen the entire series a couple of times so no intention of watching them all again but was still fun to see the characters

The original was a 20 year reflection of a mostly happy suburban childhood. This is another retelling of the Civil Rights Movement.

That's the odd thing about it. Will the people who watched it 30 plus years ago watch it now or will kids that prefer streaming even bother to watch a minute?

Didn't watch it then and have no interest in the reboot now. But I've never been in either shows demographic.

Edit: Didn't see what T-Bone wrote.

I'll check it out.

I don't think it will be the same for people our age. I was kind of fascinated by the era that was about 10 years before I was a kid. It was all nostalgia and understanding how my family grew up in the '60s and the times in America.

I don't think the '90s is the same. But, there are things they could do that would be pretty interesting. I'll try it out.

"odd man out". S3 had most of their best episodes, including the math class arc, kevin's first summer crush, getting a new family car, and karen leaving.

going off what GD said, there was a show that stood on its own legs as a "wonder years" inspired show. "everybody hates chris". narrated by adult chris rock, taking place in the 80's when he grew up. it was a spiritual successor.

i'll give it a chance but so many new shows just have the worst writing and tone.

Those were traumatic times for a young man.

And sometimes an old man.

Who would have guessed that the actor who played Paul would grow up to be a rock star.
