Many consider Moving Pictures their pinnacle (as it was the most commercially successful), though some choose Permanent Waves because as good as MP is, it marked a movement to synthesizers--at the expense of guitar--that many feel started their decline. Personally, if I had to pick one desert island Rush album, it would be Hemispheres.

Hemispheres is great...2 of my top 10 favorite Rush songs...side 1 of the record kills it for me....it's like listening to Floyd with Shine on You Crazy Diamond opening Wish You Were Here. I can handle it every once in a while, but something about it just kills the album as a whole for me.

I flip-flop between Permanent Waves and A Farewell to Kings as #1.
Hemispheres has Circumstances and La Villa Strangiato which make it awesome, but full album wise it falls behind Moving Pictures, 2112 and the others mentioned.

Music would need it's own category and still be mostly...subjective. It's a tough sell for "greatest work of art" to begin with but saying some Rush album is better compared to something that Beethoven, Wagner, or Mozart composed is a little ridiculous. I might as well make my case for George Michaels's Faith album or Britney Spears. The answer just kinda makes me want to do the jerk off motion and think the guy is a bit of a stroke.

It is almost impossible to argue a Rush album is the greatest work of art when things like the Pieta, Sistine Chapel, Mona Lisa or anything by other famous artists exist.
