Anyone have any experiences with either? We are considering signing up my 7-year old for Cub Scouts. Went to a meeting last night. Seemed like nice people.

A million years ago I was in scouts for the long haul and was invaluable. I think it really has to do with the luck of the group you fall in with. Also, the experience and quality of leaders.

On the other hand my son did not take to Cub scouts very long about 13-14 years ago. In my view he seemed to enjoy trips, camps and outdoor things. Anything inside, educational or crafty and he was done.

the quality of troops vary but I think it is a great organization for young kids. So much of their lives outside of school are tied to either sports or academics. Scouts provides them something entirely different. It is an opportunity to learn skills with which they would have no exposure outside of scouting. Kids can build friendships through collaboration and shared experience. It also provides character building.

Good stuff and different than what is offered out there.

Only did Cub Scouts for a year. Best thing I took away was the Cub Scout Handbook. It was invaluable over the years as a reference for tying knots and ties.

My family was banned from the Scouts at our parish after my older brother was caught extorting dues money from other kids.

another thing that is great is, as they get to the boy scout level, it is more peer driven than parent driven

I was in Indian Guides. I’m guessing that doesn’t exist any more.

I was kicked out of cub scouts after beating up the den mother's son on the way to a meeting at their house.
