The boy said Coghill had visited the bus stop on Monday and touched him in a way that made him uncomfortable. The boy also told his parents about the incident on Monday, and the father accompanied the boy to the bus stop on Wednesday, according to local reports.

"He knew the time he would be there every day," Ward told News9 of Coghill. "That was the hardest part, the most disgusting part."

The victim’s father sat in his car waiting to see if Coghill would make an appearance and touch the child inappropriately. As the boy made his way to the stop, Coghill stopped his jog and approached the boy, according to the police report.

"While he was watching the school bus stop, our suspect ran by him, ran past the bus stop where the children were waiting. Turned around, came back and stopped where he touched the child," Sgt. Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department said.

Coghill was seen placing his hand on the child’s side, before he moved his hand to the backside of the boy. The father recorded the incident, which was given to police, and proceeded to tackle Coghill.

Coghill's skull was fractured and his orbital socket cracked on the left side of his face.

"He was in the cop car all bloody," Ward added.

Coghill is a pastor at Lakehoma Church of Christ.

While i totally understand what the father did, we shouldn't have vigilantes running about. He could have had the cops stake out the bus stop. I mean if he just so happened to witness this and he beat the piss out of him absolutely. But he kinda staked it out. This man isn't the law.
It kind of reminds me of that guy who shot the intruders in his house by baiting them in.
Anyway I don't know what I'd do as a prosecutor. I don't blame the guy, would have a hard time not kicking some ass myself but this isn't how justice is carried out in the US.

It's a difficult situation and I feel for the father (and son). But the father's response might have crossed the line legally. Let's say the same thing happened, and the father recorded the act, but instead of tackling the guy, he shot him dead.

What I don't get is how the guy did this in front of other kids and/or the bus driver.

The father showed a tremendous amount of restraint. He may have saved other kids from the same or worse fate.

as long as we have a jury system, parents reacting normally, naturally to predators going after their children will be unprosecutable

I understand your argument Darko but I think you're misapplying the concept of vigilantism here. He followed up on his kid's claim that something weird was going on, verified something was indeed happening (and let his kid be victimized in the process), documented everything for the police, then restrained the perp before he had a chance to get away. That's great parenting (following up on your kid's claim), detective work (which he was forced to do because you can't necessarily go to the police based on the word of a 9 year old or whatever), documentation (think about how he endured the sight just to get it on video to the police - almost the opposite of vigilantism), and then he restrained the dude to keep the public safe/let the police handle him. Should be given a medal.

Let his son be victimized for a second time.

That's fucked up.

Lock the father up too. What kind of a father would use their child as fucking bait? A child that had been sexually assaulted at least once by the same man.

It's not like the Dad let the guy take his son to Mexico, to a foam party and then back to his room. The creeper put his hand on his ass on the outside of his clothes. I am fine with how the dad handled it. He got shit taken care of almost immediately and without anyone getting molested (for the most part).

I swear I saw something about a HS or college girl being raped and murdered in the 70's or 80's and when the perp was caught and flown back to the state he was being charged in the girls father shot and killed him in the airport and was not prosecuted or at least not convicted. I thought they just kind of let him do it and washed their hands of it.

Do you really need your 9 year old child to be sexually assaulted AGAIN, but this time on video, in order to believe them?

Wrong. If this actually happened as described (seems fake, but who knows), then i fully support this reaction. Actually i would arrest the dad for not murdering this guy
