Yeah, I have absolutely 0 hopes that this turns out well in any way.

I believe the NFL has a lot of control. I also don't think Mama Bear will allow it to happen on her watch. Hopefully she has another 15+ years left.

If I recall correctly that is where Mike North said the Bears should move to if the White Sox had left. Just enclose the whole upper deck and voila...new stadium that is easy to get to.

I still think there is enough space over there for them to build a stadium. They wouldn't have to deal with the crazy environmental people either.

This is ultimately a business move and business moves are the only thing the Bears don't fuck up.

The McCaskeys know how to operate a business, they don't know how to operate a football team. This will be their one moment to shine.

They'll renegotiate with Chicago to renovate Soldier Field again, and then sell the Arlington Heights property for a massive profit.

I don't think they can renovate Soldier Field enough to satisfy the Bears. I believe that they could only create enough space for a max of about 5k seats. They'll need a new location.

And then Lightfoot will campaign on saving the Bears and win another term.

Everyone loses!

it's amazing how hitting the mid 1990s mark of 800 homicides won't sink her but losing the Bears will

The constant mediocrity and losing along with the front office and ownership ineptitude doesn't bother you, but a new stadium outside of Chicago city limits would?

 Have fun rooting for the Vikings then

She's toast now. She needs a Hail Mary to have any kind of positive legacy outside of being the first lesbian mayor.

I'm a very patient man. I would just wait until an AFC expansion team moves to Chicago in the 30's.

Is there a location in the city that could be converted into a destination mecca? It would need to have a domed stadium, parking, restaurants and hotels, residential options, theaters, great parking yet walkable and convenient in and out for both cars and public transportation.

Trying to talk the Bears into staying at Soldier field would be a complete non starter.

I guess that should be expected from a supposed Sox fan who wrapped himself in a W flag in 2016.

You're kind of a shity fan.

They are headquartered in Lake Forest, and any sane team would look for their own place. Especially with Lightfoot jabbing them in the media, and acting like she's doing them a favor by allowing them in her city.

They currently have a horrible lease and helped to oversee a bad renovation. Forbes estimated they were undervalued by one billion dollars because of business mismanagement a few years ago.

They rely on Ted Phillips as their business expert. He is probably a very good accountant, so he doesn't lose them money. I and Forbes think they have no idea of the opportunity costs his management creates

They have made a big investment in LF, which now looks like a poor decision.

Meh. Their investment is minimal. Their facilities are in a decent corporate park, just off 294. They could easily convert to a corporate HQ and lease or sell to someone else.

The opportunity at Arlington is sky high. I don't see how anything else could compete.

There's no way the Bears would go further South in the city. It would need to be a massive piece of real estate...on the river, near multiple highways, with room for all the things I mentioned above.

I would expect the White Sox to be in the same boat.

Didn't they just spend like $200M for a state of the art facility?

Is there room on the Soldier Field property to build a nice domed baseball stadium? Build parking decks? Build a restaurant, bar, hotel, entertainment complex? Similar to what Rosemont did.

A team would then have to share revenue in all of it...just to keep them interested.

Hard to believe the McKaskey family will be able to pull this off, is an ownership change coming? This move takes that franchise from a maw and paw small business to an actual legit NFL franchise, a team owned multiuse stadium opens up all kinds of potential revenue streams.

Of course, why not just keep the practice and corporate facilities in LF?

Whichever makes better sense.

$200mil relative to the $billions that Arlington would cost and generate, is a drop in the bucket.

No new construction would be allowed on the lakefront. The master plan has been for 100+ years for the lakefront to be open to the people and uncluttered by development.

This actually creates a massive opportunity for re creation of public space. Time to take down Soldier Field and its acres of asphalt parking. Maybe keep the columns and incorporate them into something. Think big with this.

Soldier field isn't on the lakefront
