It is this year. Next year the expectations are to make a deep run/win the World Series. The Sox will have a great blend of young and old studs next season. La Russa will graduate an arm or 2 to the rotation. Just like he used to do in St. Louis.

Fuck that low expectations shit.

This season will be a massive failure without 3 straight wins.

Agree with peeps. Another one-and-done postseason as a failure. Fun the regular season, but overall a failure.

I would have loved for them to win a series too. That doesn't change the future outlook of this team. This team is loaded and will be winning for years to come.

i'm not the one fast forwarding things.

That was more an offer than an accusation.

I’m a Sox, Bears and ND fan. Not a lot there save for the greatest World Series team in history.

Bulls & Blackhawks have done well enough in my lifetime to not complain.

Well, we all have stories.

ND has a really interesting pick 'em game this weekend.

We hope.

They have significant holes.

Until they show otherwise, the team is suspect.

There can be only one though . White Sox arent as good as the Dodgers, Rays , Giants , Astros . That’s just the reality . To expect them to bring it home this year is unrealistic . Not all playoff teams are created equal.

Sure. I don't think it was unreasonable to expect a series win. Getting to the playoffs and getting bounced right away is the same thing that happened last year. And the manager was fired for it

I want better.

Yup. Just like 2006 and 2016 when the better team lost the WS

Peeps, they covered up their holes this year. At least they show they can still compete in the regular season with guys missing significant time. Their biggest hole appears to be winning playoff games. They are currently on a four-game playoff losing streak and all four losses have been incredibly ugly.

If they had lost clean, crisp games I would be disappointed but it would be easy to say they lost to fhe better team. They are completely pissing down their leg and I think Houston smells blood in the water. I hope I'm wrong because I'm going to be there in person, but I think Sunday might even be uglier than today.

None of those positions are significant holes. They need a better defensive catcher. And the bullpen to perform. A second baseman would be nice but it’s not a major issue.

They are a different team at home. It’s stupid to say it’s going to get worse there. Houston was gifted a game by LaRussa having no rational strategy.

They absolutely could win the next 2 games.

I just have no faith that it will happen.

Sheets. Do you honestly think Engel is a good offensive player? If you do, you should have been wringing your hands all year because he was injured and then clamoring to have him in the lineup when he came back. He's not an everyday hitter. He's a fourth outfielder. In fact, if he came up at any time other than a rebuild, he's probably not even on the roster right now.

There was a lefty starting. Next.

Two at bats, no hits, one strikeout. Good start from Engel.

anybody surprised by this hasnt watched playoff baseball the last 5 or 6 years.

To win in the playoffs u gotta hit and hit and hit. U gotta win slugfests. Good pitching has been getting clobbered like never before.

Meaning u gotta answer the other team right away.

The Sox have good hitters, but usually have to have good pitching and control of the game.

They are not good in winning slugfests when the other team is hitting. The Astros answered the Sox today. The Sox folded and didnt answer.

Think back to the Astros Dodgers World Series in 2017. Or last year's World Series. Hell, look at Boston tonight. Gave up 5 runs in the first. They came back on the road with a few homers and took an 8-5 lead. Buster Posey just hit a HR against Buehler in the first inning. It's unbelievable.

Whatever happened to great pitching in the playoffs? And tense hitting and low-scoring games?

Anyway, the Rays, Red Sox, and Astros are way above the Sox. Sox aint even in their class.

We're talking offense here, not defense. You were the one touting Engel's offensive credentials. He's not a starting corner outfielder. He simply doesn't hit well enough.

Depends on your number I guess. I have them -1.5 and feel ok. Make that more than an FG and I’m not as confident.

No disrespect intended but that’s a weirdass take. How old are you and when/why do you log in as HY vs. Whistler?

He’s the singular worst color guy I’ve ever heard. You could make a plausible argument that he’s doing a bit, dropping in incomprehensible old timey references while misunderstanding everything happening on the field.

He also seemed to endorse slavery today, which makes sense for his age, but seems cancellable.
