Ive been in places similar on special nights. I’ve heard the phrase, in regards to steaks “That’s all we thawed out” and we are out of that more than once. But to echo doc, I’m not sure that menu is huge compared to a lot of small town places. When I looked at it last night my thought was it reminded me of going to Corfu(with a rural twist) back in the day.

Most people that go in there don't even ask for a menu. They just look at the board behind the counter.

I’m going to have to go there and order a double and then look around and ask them if they have any vegetable stir fry. Might be a secret menu item. Also, going to have to get the deep fried pickle.

Many years ago I lived around the corner from the Diner Grill on Irving Park. We used to call it the "Lotto Diner" because of the big Lotto sign outside. It just so happened that a guy I grew up with and had been really good friends with took over as the short order cook there after the previous cook, Donny, was decapitated.

Steve was the perfect counterman/cook for this place. He kept the snappy patter going whilst quickly turning out pancakes and omelettes. One night I ended up sitting next to a drunken Nick Bell as Steve made fun of him for about half an hour.

Okay, I got a little off track here. My point in responding to Doc's post is that one night I was in there and some guy actually ordered the perch dinner. Steve turned to his assistant and said, "Hey Marty, go check the mop bucket and see if we have an order of perch left."

Sadly, Steve died broke and homeless several years ago.
