Totally. I'm not blowing anyone with electric candles.

I had to give up pet rocks. Not great for the health I’ve found.

Toasters, microwaves, space heaters…to name a few.

Best answer? Dehumidifiers.

Do people still use humidifiers?

As a kid my job at night was to pour buckets of water into that thing that would often spill near the outlet.

Is that a fire hazard? I was always pretty certain I’d die from it at some point.

I bought one for my dad after my mom passed away. He liked the screensaver on her old ~2009 laptop which ran photos of various families and vacations. So I transferred the photos onto a USB drive and bought a 10" frame and stuck it in his bedroom. He adores it.

 I was at a party on the Fourth of July and guy who bikes a lot and I were talking about cycling. Another guy who I have known for a long time and who used to be a skinny kid but now weighs almost 400 lbs. and his chubby girlfriend were in the conversation. The girlfriend was talking about how they were considering getting electric bikes. The other guy said, "I think you should get the real thing."  I was thinking exactly the same thing. I just wasn't ignorant enough to say it.

You're the last guy I would have expected to support this dumb idea. The Electoral College exists so The People aren't tyrannized by others living 2000 miles away. Even with the EC, Washington, D.C. manages to reign terror down upon People across the country.

Please disavow now.

Aren’t they already? Large cities are just becoming large states.

Most rural people I know in Illinois don’t have a vote. That’s not 2,000 miles away.

May you be fortunate to live in an irrelevant electoral college state that doesn’t have a large city in it.

There’s only a few states in the US where people’s votes actually matter. They circle them on the maps every 4 years.

I now disavow.

Thank you for disavowing.

The part I bolded isn't an argument against the EC, it's an argument in favor of an EC type device within the state. One thing the Founders understood is that government belongs as close to The People as possible.

Maybe you've met Dick Durbin. Most of us never have. He doesn't have to really answer to his constituents. That's not how the system was designed. And every law they pass makes it more difficult to remove the incumbent. The idea of a "citizen legislator" is long gone. To the point that when Private Citizen Trump was actually elected president, the entire system mobilized to reject him the way an immune system mobilizes to reject a virus. We now have a president who has never collected a dollar that didn't come from the government (except the money he's gotten under the table). These positions were never meant to be careers.

That's why on one hand I'm appalled by the way protests have moved from public spaces directly to the lawns of the people in power, but on the other I understand it, as that was bound to occur when our representatives are barely responsive to the wishes of the people they represent.

Also, I think the idea that "only a few states matter" isn't really true. It's based on an assumption that the other states are frozen in the way they vote. We all saw what Trump did to "The Blue Wall."

Well, I find it odd that in a time when we're so worried about climate change to a point where we've taken such destructive measures that many people will be unable to heat their homes this winter, we allow this "luxury" item to exist when a rake works just fine. Not to mention how obnoxiously loud they are and the nasty smell of gasoline spoiling the beautiful fall day.

Stihl battery blower is my solution to two of the three issues you have stated, and, since I do not actually use it to blow leaves off my lawn, all three are met here.

I recall listening to my Dad talk about the forest conditions in Germany when he was stationed there late 1950's. There were so many war widows still, and most of the homes had not upgraded from wood heat. The women and elderly men scoured any woodlot for kindling and firewood, he said bivouac tent camping was relatively easy, like camping on a golf course. Geman nature had each house with a tidy little wood pile of free fuel, the folks got exercise harvesting the fuel, the forests were tidy. We could have solved most of the issues raised in this thread, and all it would take is defeat in a world wide war! Bring back open flame home heating and free kindling pickup, more attrition by house fires, healthier survivors, and tidy woodlots.

i totally agree. the real solution to climate change is de-population. not in the sense that we fuck over so many people they die off and stop having kids. bill gates even said a healthy population that is financially well off and happy tends to have less kids than those financially strapped and depressed. it makes sense when you think about it. thats the real reason he pushes vaccines so much. it's like in the 1800's when farmers had lots of children... they did it because they needed help running the farm for income, and there was a high likelyhood some of the kids wouldn't make it past age 10 for one reason or another.
