It was obvious even during the Fox Era that the Bears were borking their franchise for years to come when they staggered the hiring/drafting for their GM/Coach/QB positions. Pace was brought in with Fox still as the coach and had to agree not to fire him immediately. Then Pace drafted Mitch (against Fox's wishes and against his own signing of Glennon) likely knowing full well that Fox wasn't long for the coaching life, and so the coaching "search" was hamstrung from the beginning: Every candidate had to agree to like and play Mitch.

Now, while it is clear that Pace and Nagy both have to go, the team is stuck with yet another QB who probably isn't all that good, but was drafted too high and at the cost of too much draft currency to cut ties with immediately, so when one or both of Nagy/Pace are fired, any prospective GM or coach will need to demonstrate fealty to the team's hopeful franchise-QB.

Who out there will do that, and who should the Bears go after, even if it means letting them bench/cut Fields (not necessarily now but at some point in the future)?

Let's get Jerry Angelo in charge of defensive personnel and Phil Emery in charge of offensive personnel. The Bears reached peak performance in both categories under those GMs from 2000 to present day.

I think you look at the Ravens and the Bills organizations to see who might be in an assistant GM role or assistant coach role. Those teams have recently done a nice job of building around young QB's or maybe built the team first and then drafted the QB. Greg Roman's name has come up before for head coach.

Looking to go for the home run hire at head coach or Gm, no one really comes to mind. I know that Bill O'Brien will probably get another job, but do you want him after the disaster in Houston? The Colts GM Chris Ballard was a hot pick for a while, but they look very average as a team right now.

I think you stay away from the New England and Kansas City coaching and organization trees.

I'm interested in seeing what others think.

I think you have to start by hiring consultants and a search firm.

Leftwich seems to be the next hot offensive coach in waiting. Having Tom Brady helps.

As far as GM, San Diego and Buffalo are gonna be the ones people look to I think.

If you really want a home run, make a run at Mike Tomlin.

No thanks on Leftwich. We tried that last time. Take the "offensive coordinator" from a great offensive coach with an elite quarterback. He's a click board holder, who is the third most important offensive play call decision maker there. Just like the guy we have now.

It would be totally on-brand for the Bears to hire the offensive coordinator who was visibly and audibly shaken off by his starting QB so said QB could run a play at a crucial moment that got them into FG range.

Louis Riddick/ John Dorsey for GM candidates

Jim Harbaugh/ Doug Pederson as HC possibilities

Pace hired Fox

I remember it being that Fox was already "hired" but required Pace's OK, which is fundamentally different.

Not only that, but I’m sure Phillips made Pace keep Cutler as a condition of accepting the job.

This organization is completely inept.

Most of the good teams keep their assistant GM's in house and just change their titles and give them raises forever until the GM leaves and they takeover so you are not getting anyone from Baltimore. Someone is going to give Elliot Wolf a shot. I think he had say in some very very bad player signings in GB..mainly the asshole TE from the Bears, but he would be a swing for the fences kind of hire. As far as HC. Its going to be Fitzgerald as long as the dumbasses from Phillips on up are around.

Lure Dungy out of broadcasting retirement. He's only 66.

Or you could take a chance on Jason Garrett. 80-66 record with Dallas. He was smart enough to draft Prescott.

Jim Schwartz also a possibility. From Wikipedia: "On January 19, 2016, Schwartz was hired by the Philadelphia Eagles to be their defensive coordinator under coach Doug Pederson. Inheriting one of the league's worst defenses, Schwartz made an immediate impact. Implementing his 4-3 defense, Schwartz turned around the defense that previously ranked 30th in yards allowed and 28th in points allowed to 13th and 12th in his first season and fourth in both categories during his second. He would eventually lead the defense to his and the Eagles' first Super Bowl championship in Super Bowl LII." Bears could use someone tough like Schwartz to kick ass.

Failure will continue as long as the people picking the groceries are not changed. Ted Phillips and the Mckaskey's have a long documented history of failure, in fact they always make the wrong choice, picking GM's that think they are smarter than the room which leads to terrible roster formation.

If George McKaskey is serious about winning he will have either completely change the way he conducts GM searches, or get the hell out of the way and hire a football Czar to run football operations, the latter would likely be the more logical and successful route.

The rest of the NFL sees the McKaskey ownership group as incompetent goofs they can count on to mismanaged the football side of one of the NFL's charter franchises. The only real hope here is the new stadium deal, which may force the goofs at Halas Hall to make wholesale changes, especially if the NFL ponies up stadium money, they won't let the McKaskey family goof up the stadium deal.

Agreed.. but I hope Pace is long gone before a decision like this. He’s a terrible GM

Pederson has 1 legit brilliant season as an HC under his belt, and a few really good seasons outside of that. He legit understands offense and can call plays. His only real mistake was the big one he made that led to his firing in a season that was most likely a wash anyway.

I’d take a chance in him. He is a legitimately talented coach imo

Agree, they could do (and have done) worse than Pederson.

Pace has put together one of the worst collections of offensive "talent" in the league, he has no business taking part in any rebuild. You need to clean house, found Kap's inferring that Virginia is considering moving on from George interesting. When you think about it George has made the wrong call on all of the GM/Coach hires he has overseen, you would be hard pressed to find someone, anyone that would screw thing up as badly as he has done. Removing him from anything that has to do with football and moving him into overseeing something like painting seats would greatly benefit the franchise.
