A 1st round lottery pick with the tools to step in after departures that everyone knew would be coming due to cap squeeze isn't exactly someone working his way up. He is someone who essentially has his spot already there for him. Dustin Byfuglien's or Troy Brouwer's spot was literally his to take by just showing up and doing work. Clearly the scouting on him was way off because damn was he soft.
This wasn't some 5th rounder selected from a podunk USHL team
https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdi ... ?pid=90922He had high PIM while putting up points in the WHL, the stats show he only played eight games with Rockford in 2009-2010. You're correct, he was a first rounder from a 100,000 person town in BC. But, he was someone who was just beginning his journey and looking at the numbers a bit of a cement-head. 20 years old and up with the big team, you think he understood he was getting Buff or Brouwer's spot? Come on, you're smarter than this.
It seems like every blog understood he'd have a big opportunity to play in Chicago because we all knew it was win in 2010 or there won't be a chance for a few years because key pieces were going to be gone. Had he lived up to potential, he would've been playing the Bryan Bickell or Brandon Saad role in 2013. He had Top 6 written all over him when drafted.
Fair enough, with that in mind I'd like to look at this snippet from the report:
John Doe and Brad Aldrich have widely divergent recollections of the sexual encounter, but both men agree an encounter occurred. The heart of the difference between the two recollections is not only what occurred during the encounter was entirely non-consensual. John Doe stated, among other details, that on one occasion, during the second week of May 2010, Aldrich invited him to his apartment, provided him with dinner and drinks, told him he had the power to get John Doe onto the Blackhawks’ roster, and turned on pornography. John Doe stated that Aldrich threatened John Doe by telling John Doe he needed to act like he enjoyed the sexual encounter or John Doe would never play in the NHL “or walk” again, forcibly performed oral sex on John Doe, masturbated on John Doe’s back, and then threatened John Doe again before John Doe was able to escape Aldrich’s apartment. This is only Beach's account. I suppose it is plausible that Beach took up the invitation with the idea that he'd do whatever he could to be on the roster. Again according to Hockey DB he had only played 8 games that year in Rockford (4 regular season, 4 playoffs) after his finishing his fourth year in Juniors. After the incident he felt disgusted and changed the story to that he was taken advantage of. I have no reason to believe Aldrich based on what happened with the minor a few years later. I am more inclined to believe Beach's account, that a coach used his position to coerce a younger player. I can believe that a threat was made...I mean Beach wasn't the only "Black Ace" and you don't think Aldrich could find a lesser prospect to cause an injury to Beach in practice? I guess that I can agree that Beach put himself in a bad situation by accepting an invitation to Aldrich's apartment. Maybe what happened wasn't a sexual assault...at best/worst it was sexual harassment due to Aldrich's job title.
