My jobs have been at a nuclear power plant (plenty of guys would show up still drunk from the night before and would drive back home and take a v or sick day when they saw the drug and alcohol testing van. They since have a built a permanent building for that.), metal finishing (using acids and bases), wastewater treatment (also acids and bases) and finally oil and gas industry.

Drinking and chemicals do not mix, so no.

Never on the current job, nor even challenged the five-hour-before-work rule.

At my previous job, my partner's cousin had retired from UPS at age 40. He had serious money, and no one his age to spend his time with, so he hung out at our shop. Showed up late afternoon with a cold case every week, usually three or four times a week. Only once did it cause an issue, I backed a customer's brand new Bronco II into a tree in the parking lot and wrinkled the quarter panel, after 6-8 beers. The guy was actually pretty cool about it, I paid the deductibles etc. out of my pocket and we got it fixed. He kept it for many years, and all was okay.

Alcohol may have played a part in clouding the judgement of the woman I've married, and I have been paying for that for many years now.

When I worked at a brokerage firm almost every Friday we would do Slurpee with booze. Buy them at the 7 11 walk next door to the bar and have a shot or two added . Nice way to relax the last hour or so from dealing with our moron customers

At one point currently or previously, I worked for a Mad Men-era company.

2 scotch lunches (not me), single malt, never blended and a cabinet for the 4pm hour after a rough day (sometimes me).

Once or twice a month some co-workers and I will go out to lunch and have a few two three beers each.

I mean I think that isn’t all that uncommon.

One time when I was about 25, I was working in the Loop.

I was 25 years old and my office was at 225 W. Warshington.

Anytime you want to meet me there, you tell me what time and I’ll meet you there and I’ll whip your ass.

Anyway my Global company had been sold. We literally had no work to do. A buddy of mine was in town and we met up at a bar around the corner under the el.

My buddy asked me if the poker machines paid out. The bartender heard us and said “yeah, they pay out”.

I was getting fired anyway. I found out later I wasn’t but I didn’t know that at the time.

So we started doing pitchers for a 3-4 hour lunch then I went back to my office and fell asleep. And they still didn’t fire me.
