Kopech will be better. Giolito will bounce back. Tough going from 60 games to 162. Cease seems to only be scratching the surface of his potential. So 3/5 isn't bad. And I think they are adding someone to the rotation too.

Honestly? They signed Lynn, and have devoted a lot of resources into Cease, Kopech, and Giolito. That's your 1-4. They need to be the guys. If they aren't, this team won't win a WS.

They need to pitch better. But when you fail it’s time to add/ reenforce. I would rather add a starter than Marcus Semien. He would be a great story, but he’s 32. Who knows if he hits like last year again? He’s a luxury.

For the most part, all of those guys were good during the regular season. All of them shit the bed when it mattered most.

I was all for them acquiring Scherzer at the deadline last season, but the way starting pitchers are being used in the postseason makes me hesitant to invest a lot of money in the position. Do they really want to blow their budget on a guy who is going to pitch four innings twice a series?

Two good 4-inning starts would be an improvement over what the starters did last year.

The bar has to be set higher. With the Sox bullpen the way it was last year, the starters needed to cover at least 15-18 outs for them to win. I don't see how that will be different in October 2022.

You look at his career and last year is ridiculously anomalous. He was fifth in Cy Young voting the year before and nothing in the previous five would have indicated a fall off the map year. His first half wasn't even all that bad.

Dallas has no velocity and no margin for error. He might bounce back, but I have zero faith he will be good in the playoffs.

The guy I want is Trevor Story. He will still only be 29 next year so you could offer a 5 year deal with some feeling of security. He's had borderline MVP numbers and I'd bet on a bounce back from a bad year. Might even be able to get him a little cheaper. He's good enough in the field but not so good he shouldn't be willing to play 2B.
