Going to be back with the extended family this year, my father hasn't seen most of them for almost two years, so he is excited about it.

That reminds me that I need to pick up something today that I can carry on to the flight to take as a hostess gift for my cousin who does all the cooking.

I was planning this but life got in the way. It's a friend's recipe. Delicious and simple.

2 cans shoepeg corn
1 block of cream cheese
Diced jalapeño
Garlic salt
Shredded cheese

Soften cream cheese in microwave

Mix corn and cream cheese and

jalapeño and garlic salt to taste in a bowl

Put in a pan and top with shredded cheddar jack

Bake

I was just making a list for Thanksgiving. I am going to give this recipe a try this year. I think I am going to use frozen corn instead. I find it allows the other ingredients to stand out a little more.

Indeed. Mine is moving from freezer to fridge when I get home later.

Tip; Its not the tastiest, but if you're cooking have one or two of those instant gravy packets on stand by just in case you aren't able to make any with pan drippings. It's better than no gravy at all.

Follow-up: good but not great. I love fennel, but this recipe didn't transport me to another plane of existence. But certainly not bad by any means. I may make it again. I always change up how I do my Brussels sprouts, and I think my favorite was with Thai sweet chili sauce.

This reminds me: I need a sprouts recipe for this year! I liked having fennel and leeks in the mix, but the five spice and balsamic were...just fine.

Bourdain has a pretty good non-roasted recipe floating around. And *gasp* Chrissy Tiegan (or her mom/team of writers) has a pretty good roasted recipe as well.

Thinking of doing pirogues as an app/side this year.

Fennel makes people poop.

https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-i ... ts-recipe/

Chop em saute in bacon fat in a pan add parmesan bacon and a little bit of cream salt and pepper best if done just before serving can chop and prep everything ahead but cook a la minute.

cut in half pan fry flat side down caramelize flip let the rounded side brown salt. These can be reheated easily

Can roast with cranberries pine nuts and stuff too or sprinkle with pomegranate seeds

There are lots out there with Thai Chile misos and other stuff but I try to keep holiday stuff unadventurous.

Not so much a recipe, but a technique for cooking Brussels Sprouts in an air fryer (starts at around 5:40):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWPhBzPx4bc

Would also be a good use of the air fryer if all your other burners/ovens are occupied with other dishes.

Is it worth it to get an air fryer? Is it going to sit in my cabinet next to the instapot and something else I didn't need?

3 teenage boys and we use it non-stop. It cuts cook time for many prepared/frozen foods that should be baked. I think my kids are at the age they understand that food can be microwaved but shouldnt. Yes I know that we shouldnt eat frozen foods for every meal but the only time we have to actually sit down and eat a homemade meal is maybe on a Sunday evening. I fought my wife for a while on getting the fryer and she won. We bought a giant sized one from Costco and I thought it would sit on the counter for a few weeks and end up in storage but it is used constantly.

Air Fryers are awesome. Instapots should also have more utility than sitting in a cabinet year round. I thought you were a creative cook type?

Definitely get an air fryer.

Excellent for re-heating fries. It's the only thing that saves them.

Cuts wings time almost in half. Great for anything breaded and frozen.

I keep fighting the idea of getting an air fryer since I'm trying hard to kick the convenience of preservative loaded frozen food. But given how rarely I cook now, I'm gonna have to get one and toss some of the crap sitting on my counters now.

I said it was irrational.. I just got really tired of people I know who would extol the benefits of them and then I'd eat their creations and they would be tasteless mushy crap. But everything they cook fits that description. So, in my experience its rational but I know its really the allergy to flavor that these people have.

I was going to do a Prime Rib roast but was waiting to buy to keep it fresh.

Saved $150-200 due to my laziness.

 my wife used to get so upset when my two would fight every so often. It was especially hilarious when little brother got too big for older brother. Until it wasn't. But God forbid an outsider came to one of them wrong.

My youngest actually was going to maim a guard at Wrigley who kept fucking with his older brother. I don't think my wife understood the depth of their relationship until we were laughing one night about the experiences. And which one of us was the craziest. (I came in second I've been adjudged  )

We aways had sausage and peppers and a tray of pasta. Last year because the crowd was small we had hanging tenders lobsta Mac and cheese. I don't know what to do this year yet.

Fried turkey is the bomb, as the 35-year old kids say.

I don't know what real kids say now. Mine don't talk to me. They just call me stupid and nerdy.

Fried turkey is really so easy and relatively cheap for the amount of food. Pulled pork is the only easier and more prolific amounts of meat.

That's a weird thing for me. As much as I love wood fired beef, I've lost the taste for pork unless it's primarily over commercial charcoal. (Yeah, I know, I know) And I agree on the fixings.
