Hiring the guy who inherited a mini Alabama to replace Nagy sounds like a recipe for disaster. I would rather have Harbaugh.

I'd rather have Luke Fickel

Eddie Jackson said that the team is playing for Nagy's job. I guess we'll find out what that means very soon.

Time to bring in a guy like Josh McDaniels who is the farthest thing from the used car salesman type that typically fools Ted/George. He would be brutally honest in evaluating the current roster and would know right away if Fields could play or not, and has a proven record of running competent NFL offenses.

That said, why would anyone want an NFL job when you see the deal that Riley supposedly got at USC, and there is no way Ted/George out negotiate anyone, especially with their proven track record of failure.

The days of guys lining up to coach "The Charter Member of the NFL", are over, do you really want the entire city of Chicago chanting to fire you if you screw up, or would you rather be protected at a big time university where they hire former beauty queens to be your..."Executive Secretary".

McDaniels would probably want to be "the guy" and have power over personnel.

For me, there's no way the Bears hire someone from the tier 1 of available coaches (McDaniels, Moore, etc). It's going to be a coordinator who's not necessarily tier 1.

In McDaniels only opportunity to handpick a QB, he wanted to push out a young Cutty in favor of Matt Cassell, then used a 1st round pick on Tim Tebow.

He is, by most accounts, a giant asshole who’s never succeeded away from Belichick. He’s like a younger, not yet obese Chuck Weis.

There's no room for growth in the last 10+ years?

I’m not aware of any evidence that he’s no longer a giant ass.

The way he handled the Indy thing was borderline sociopathic. Maybe he’s grown in the past 3ish years.

The Belichick tree has never produced fruit. Looking at the list of his former assistants is almost as bad as reviewing the Bears QB record book.

McDaniels is obviously a great offensive coordinator, but I just get the feeling that’s his ceiling in the NFL.

I just pray to God we don’t go the dinosaur coach route.

Another John Fox scenario may kill my fandom.

Indy got really lucky. Nagy and McDaniels left them at the altar and their 3rd option was the best one.

I think what McDaniels did to Indy and the fact that Belichick’s tree sucks will likely keep McDaniels from being offered a good job. Besides, I think he's dumb enough to want to replace Belichick after he retires.

Most coaches are jerks or at least control freaks.

I'd take my chance on McDaniels over most of the other guys that probably will fail too.

I agree with Brick here. I would take my chances on McDaniels. I like what I have read on Dabol as well, but who the hell knows. I also agree I hope we do not go the route of John Fox hire.

i'd like to get a coach somewhere in the middle experience wise. not a retread, but also at least have several years as an OC. they hired nagy because he came highly recommended and interviewed well... despite his resume being a joke. dont want that to happen again

Dats right. They might Tomlin him. Which means he doesn’t really coach anything. He just gives speeches, pressers and decides go for 1 or 2.

nagy cant event do that part right. in the baltimore game they had to call a timeout because they had the extra point team on the field when they should have been going for two

Doesn't McDaniels fetishize the short passing game? I'm not sure he would be a good match for Fields.

Also, he is often referred to as the head coach-in-waiting for the Patriots. Why would he want to self-immolate in the dumpster fire that is the Bears organization instead of staying in New England?

If the season ended in the same position we are now (no playoffs, losing record, lack of clarity on Fields) there can be no way he is back. Now with our luck, they will beat a Murray-less Cardinals team, and then Rodgers will be out with Covid toe. If they somehow finish 8-9, and Fields and the offense look better, I wouldn't put it past them to bring him back.

I think you've admitted he's a failure as an offensive expert. So why would anyone want to bring him back for what will surely be another bottom third finish in all meaningful offensive metrics?

2019- 4 game losing streak, lost 5 out of 6
2020- 6 game losing streak
2021- 5 game losing streak, which is very likely to be lost 7 out of 8 or 8 out of 9

That right there is enough reason to fire a head coach.

Half of their 4 wins are against the Lions. Playoffs?!?

I thought he was a failure after his first season here. I think the organization likes him and the players like him. I think they're looking for reasons to keep him. Fields taking off or a strong finish to the season could be enough.

IMO they couldnt care less about Nagy. They are playing for their own jobs. Win or lose there is going to be tape out there on these guys, and if they start loafing and giving up on the field, its going to make it that much harder for them to stay in the NFL. Either teams won't sign them, or they'll get hurt.

That's the way I see it as well. If they play harder or smarter, you would have to wonder why they didn't do it earlier in the season.
