I can hear the press conference now

Scott Merkin: Rick...are there plans to start Leury at either 2nd or in RF to start the season?

Rick Hahn: Scott...great question. We've petitioned the league and they're granting us approval to clone him to start at both 2nd and in RF. The Leurys will also be hitting 2nd and 6th in the lineup.

Scott Merkin:

Need to see how things play out and the money they are spending to know about this move. If he is a utlitiy guy at a reasonable price then that is perfect. Otherwise it is a bad move. Surely they don't plan on going into next season with him as a starter

He was coming back. Organization favorite. Plays about every position. He won’t be starting unless someone gets hurt.

You don't sign a guy to a 3yr deal to be a utility guy.

Agree, but 3yr is a long time for a jack of all trades master of none type guy.

They should see if the Mets are interested in trading Jeff McNeil. He's likely odd man out in NY with them signing Escobar and having one year left on Cano's disaster of a deal.

McNeil will be more of a utility guy for them. He can play several positions.

If Hahn dangles Kimbrel, do the Mets give up McNeil and a mid-tier pitching prospect?

Have no fear. Nightengale says Hahn wants a guy like Semien and a pitcher like Ray.

Does Leury count as like Semien? Both are ballplayers. They both have played 2nd base.

I don't think Leury will be a starter. They will go the Lance Lynn route of trying to find someone on an affordable contract and deal Jared Kelly and Sheets for him.

I have never understood the sox mo of trading for players when comparable free agents are available.

Oscar Colas finally signed today after waiting for what seemed like a couple years.

Trades usually are a shorter term commitment on contract. Most FA signings result in some really awful years at the end of the contract. Plus....the Sox aren't exactly a baseball destination where players say...."oh man....if only I could play in CHICAGO for the White Sox....it would be a dream come true!".

I LOVE baseball, but I just can't find the motivation to care right now with the labor issues.

Bears just hired Ryan Pace part 2. Baseball is a nice distraction.

Hopefully this happens before May 1.

I don't like the chances. I'll say June if there's a season at all.

Feels like giving them a loan at this point.

I had a chance to buy $35 tickets in Seattle (hosting Detroit) for the first weekend of the season, the equivalent of the last couple of rows of GRate Section 132 directly behind the plate. I'm going to be there for a conference, it would have been a nice outing and it's a very good ballpark.

Normally I would have jumped at it but they probably won't give me my money back if the season gets delayed.

The worst he'll get here is some woman asking him to eat giardiniera out of her snatch.
