They still play the Prep Bowl?

yep

It's lost even more of its luster since it moved to Gately from Soldier a few years ago.

I remember going to Soldier in my youth and watching Julian play someone. Julian had Cleveland Browns replica uniforms and I was young enough to think I was watching a junior NFL team.

Tribune used to give free tickets to carriers when I was a kid.

My cousin and two of my brothers and I would go every year. It was a date well looked forward to. Saw Dennis lick and Billy Marek play.

Got to play in the playoffs for it at Soldier Field in 1978.

Jus walking on that field was cool as all get out. Got hammered by St Laurence I think.

That's really cool Ron. So your Gramps was one of the twins?

Dan O'Brien was there when i was.

Duchon became a hall of fame coach at Glenbard West.

Bud Romano's nephew and I are best friends.

Yes, Coleman was my grandfather. He's correctly identified in the picture but passed away in 2004, not in 2013.

So Dan O'Brien was still a coach when you were at Fenwick? Both your dad and you went there? That's very cool and special.

I know my grandpa remained close with some high school teammates/friends. He had nine kids too so I'm sure some of my aunts/uncles know other people's kids as well.

Dan was the trainer. Best high school swim coach in US history. An amazing record that will never be surpassed. His water polo teams were almost as good.

There are 6 boys in our family.

My dad, and five of the six are Fenwick grads. One went to the same school that Young Crest graduated from last year.

One of my class and team mates was quoted in the Tribune today for selling Tony Accardo's old house in River Forest.

My grandparents (and my mom, the first of nine) lived right around the block from that house in the mid-50s. I learned after a quick phone call with my mom earlier that Buddy and his family/my grandparents use to go to each other's parties. One or two of my uncles use to work for his wine distribution company.

They are back in the wine business, and my buddy is currently the President, but moving on to something else probably the first of the year

Very nice!

Seacrest is basically the mirror image of me, except that he is a few years older and athletic. It's really, really weird.

Also played at Gately in the late 70's.

The turf was horrible.

Now I know how much it sucks to be an Iowa fan.

I worked my first IHSA playoff game at Gately. MC running clocked Benet in 2013. No room on that sideline as MC had a coach for every 5 players (or so it seemed).
