Nah I don't roll like that. As I stated previously I prefer to reply to posts and not posters. There is some merit to what he says regardless of what his angle is or who he happens to be. I think he is wrong but in the words of NAS's favorite Civil Rights leader we can disagree without being disagreeable. WHat i have found is that in life some people will be perturbed whenever the issue of race is discussed. He isn't one and neither am I.

Actually, I find such discussions very interesting. I have enjoyed this thread, even if there are some who will not even try to see things from my perspective where Till, Parks or the whites who participated in the civil rights movement. Sure, at times in the past I have posted crap that was intended to elicit a response of outrage and because of it, the posts I make now, may not be given the same degree of consideration they otherwise might have been afforded. But if nothing else, when someone asks the names of the 3 young men killed in Mississippi for educating and helping to register black folks, maybe a couple people will now remember their names.

I'll make a special point to forget their names now.

Not saying that they should be thought of as insignificant figures in history, but compared to people who worked tirelessly in the civil rights movement and knowingly risked their lives for the cause?

You should share these thoughts with Israel Idonije.

It was now 2 weeks ago today as well as the following Thursday and Friday that I worked on Chicago Fire with Izzy. Don't have any way to share these thoughts with him right now. the episode we shot is going to be broadcast February 21st though, if you are interested in seeing his debut as an actor.

Justice Department closes investigation into Emmett Till killing after failing to prove key witness lied

CNN wrote:
In 2017, professor Timothy Tyson unearthed what appeared to be a key piece of evidence in one of the most haunting and grisly murders documented in the Jim Crow Era: a recantation from the woman at the center of the case who had accused Till of making sexual advances at her over 60 years ago.

Yet after an exhaustive investigation, the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division has now concluded it cannot prove the woman lied to federal investigators about her story.

The 60 year after the fact recant was almost certainly bullshit. It’s interesting was years of pressure and narrative can do to memory.

How exhaustive can something be when virtually everyone involved is dead?

Yeah that recant was always viewed as a gamechanger in all of this anyway.

How many children younger than Emmett Till were murdered in Chicago this year? None of their names are remembered or revered. Interesting how the narrative drives how these stories are handled. And I have no doubt Emmett was disrespectful towards women given the lessons his father taught him.

Whatever Emmett Till got he deserved. Just like those blacks that were likely "criminals" years earlier.

WaitingforRuffcorn wrote:
I don't know how many people were lynched in the United States of any race- it was a fairly common practice though. I have seen estimates of 30,000, and many of those probably were criminals. It something people did for "justice" at the time. To place this into perspective as many as 1 million Germans starved to death from 1916-1918 due to a naval blockade. There were 40,000 people killed in the United Kingdom during the Blitz alone.

Detect a pattern? Just Asking A Question.

While I agree that someone who exhibits disrespect (in any form) deserves to be lynched, as far people still talking about this event--well, context.

No one said Emmett Till deserved to be killed. There was no reason to try to change the story 60 years after the fact to make him more of a victim. It's just a tired narrative that we must remember this death from 1955. There have been 300 children shot in Chicago this year. Not one name is remembered. Sweep it away and forget it.

You don't understand the situation. Why was it necessary to bully an old lady into a deathbed confession 60 years later? It had already been long established that this was an injustice. It was the endless quest to look for even more racism in the country.

It’s interesting what years of pressure and narrative might have done to her original story.

Nah. I mean, it's possible the lady was bullied, but I'd say the legacy of this, besides the murder of a kid (who is an actual victim), was that it was a civil rights watershed and no one was brought to legal justice. Also, I don't think there are statutes of limitations on moidahs. There are real reasons why this case still stands out, three generations later.

I support many of your posts in which you question the official story (even the early days of the Arbery case), but you're way off here.

Emmett Till deserved to die. He disrespected some poor old lady back in 1955. I know he disrespected her because his father taught him to disrespect women.

wfr has to remain committed to the bit (even though he is completely humorless, so bit is giving it too much credit), from agreeing with the narrative of the time of the tulsa riots that it was just "unrest" (both sides being guilty of violence), to saying that this woman who was responsible for an innocent kid's death was "bullied".

i guess in his mind ol' solomon northup should've been captured like a rabbit and sold into slavery because in the end he wound up disappearing like the CPD-failed scumbag he was.

What about Randy Moss? He beat the shit out of someone in high school but no one focuses on that. Instead it's all about "racism" Till went through.
