It's like most of the stuff in the store is $1 less than Jewel on everyday prices.

Plus you get the feel of what it's like to shop in a barn.

Like most things, the ones in Wisconsin are better.

The ones in Wisconsin smell like a wrinkle ranch cafeteria.

I stopped in once a few years ago on my way back from Milwaukee. It was horrible. Never again.

They have an impressive selection of craft root beer.

Craft soft drinks of all kinds. I’ve been going to Woodmans for almost 20 years now. It’s not the fanciest place and sometimes the produce and neat aren’t the best but for everything else it’s the lowest price and they have a great selection. The liquor dept is pretty damn good. Being a 24 hr spot I also prefer going at off times like 4 or 5 am and it’s great with no one in there

My favorite place for center of the store shopping. Dairy and frozen section is excellent for cheeses, butter, pizzas and tasty treats.

Haven’t been in a while but always thought they had a great beer selection, particularly when you realize you’re shopping at a homeless man’s Costco.

Also the commercials with the incontinent old man are fantastic.

I lump that in with the meats, but yes, the one in Kenosha is embarrassingly bad. I'll buy bacon, chicken, ground beef and turkey from them but everything that is a semi-specialty cut I don't bother.

That is surprising, isn't it?

You'd think a place that large with everything there would have this world-class deli. But it's like one guy behind a 4-foot glass cabinet with Oscar Mayer cold cuts behind it.

That was very disappointing.

Mariano's has the best deli for chains. Standard Market looked pretty good but I've only been there a few times.

It's also nice to buy a good draft beer (or wine for Spaulding) while going about your shopping.

Is Caputo's considered a chain? If so it blows Mariano's away (particularly after they were purchased by Kroger).

I miss living near a Caputos.

Never even seen a Caputo's. Heard of it. Never seen one.

But I'll take your word for it and check it out if one hits me on the street.

North and Schmale is awesome.

They are opening one in Mt Prospect soon.

There was one in downers Grove but it close I think the closest one now is Bloomingdale maybe or Naperville but they’re still pretty far. The one in downers Grove wasn’t very good

I think there was one on Palatine Road a couple years ago. Might have been a family knock-off.

Seem to recall it was like Joe Caputo's and Sons or something. I went there a couple times. Looked like it could be good but I was just there to buy chips on my way to work.

I don't think it even lasted a year.

I used to stop at the Woodman's in Kenosha off Hwy 50 and 94 to pick up a couple cases of the Leinenkugel's Red which they only sell in WI. Great beer section for a grocery store.

He's totally out of business.

I was never in one of his locations. Used to go early Saturday mornings sometimes to the one in Addison as well.

They could have found a full supporting cast for a Sopranos episode with the old Italian guys that were there.

Caputo’s has a ridiculous produce section, fantastic deli and the largest variety of pasta I’ve ever seen. That said, I wouldn’t go there for general grocery shopping. It gets very crowded and I find Jewel (et al) easier to navigate for standard purchases.

When I lived in Chicago, I shopped at the Caputo's on Harlem all the time. Typically, I'd hit Caponie's for pizza or Riviera for sandwiches as well in addition to a few other delis/cheese shops. The segment of Harlem running from Addison or so to North Avenue is, of course, an Italian foods gold mine, but there are a bunch of great spots representing other cuisines as well.

I haven't been in the one on Harlem since it was remodeled/built.

I think Hoffy worked there back in the day.

I buy our beer there too. Was there yesterday. HUGE selection, good prices. And friends and family enjoy finding New Glarus in our fridge.

Caputo's is good.

Pete's Fresh Market also has a very nice deli.
