I used to work at an optometrist's office not too far from East of Edens. My co-workers and I used to hit that place up pretty frequently for their ridiculously greasy but quite delicious cheeseburgers. I'm not sure if this is still the case, but it used to be a pretty popular hangout spot for Chicago cops. Many of the cops who frequented that place were also patients at the optometrist's office since we provided eye care under the city insurance plan. It was an eye-opening experience for a much younger Midget to see how many of these guys--they were all men--were either coked up or half in the bag during their shifts.

A few of them were also very aggressive about pursuing the ridiculously hot optician who worked with me. One of them would often lurch into the office just before closing time--reeking of cheap cologne and booze--in an attempt to grope her in one of the examination rooms. I think she was both flattered and frightened by his advances; the guy was charismatic but also menacing, psychotic and fond of provoking physical confrontations. Whatever the case, she seemingly never complained to her boyfriend, the psychopath's supervising lieutenant (I think that was his rank), about his behavior, which continued for a fairly long time.
