Still no fault, but supposedly reforming to reduce costs. We are due a refund in 2022 from the Catastrophic fund, or the Human Fund, or somewhere.

I seem to remember the cost of continuing unlimited medical coverage was low enough that I just kept it intact.

you can still sue in Michigan for any expenses not covered by no-fault and for nebulous eudaemonic damages (quality of life impaired due to other driver's negligence).

i think the universal unlimited lifetime medical benefits to cover medical arising out of a car accident was the main driver of Michigan's insane auto insurance rates. Only state in the country to have unlimited lifetime medical for all insured drivers.

The 2020 reforms create exceptions, but your health insurance needs to cover auto. No surprise, many health insurers in Michigan took advantage of the generous no-fault benefits to exclude car accident medical costs from coverage. If you have medicare or medicaid, you're golden. You can get a super low cap and rate or opt out completely (since the 2020 reforms) for an even lower rate. I think you can still opt out of unlimited and get a $500,000 lifetime cap on auto accident medical benefits policy, even if your health insurer doesn't cover auto. Not 100% on that tho.
