So it’s $2 million plus? You’ll catch up to Laurence soon.

Happy New Year.

Not so sure.

They are still paying the Cubs 8 figures for their broadcast rights.

Did they specify the decimal point in the contract?

Ask Rod Zimmerman

That's Parkinson?

Jesus Christ, he's the most insipid host on the Score, ever. Worse than Larry. He's a big part of the reason why no one listens. He doesn't even "talk sports" for several hours a day.

If that was really him, what an un-self-aware clown.

His show is the only show I listen to regularly.

While he is a bit of a windsocking doofus who possesses the intellect of peat moss, I still enjoy his show. Parkins and Spiegel has replicated the dynamics and feel of MJH quite nicely.

Parkins either really likes sports or really likes gambling, but either way it’s enough for it give the show some energy MANY Score shows don’t have. That’s a winning formula for afternoon drive.

People do listen

Especially the 25-54 year old men they are targeting.

I think he was spit on with his assessment.

Really?

I actually don't mind Spiegel (despite his various forms of baggage), but when Parkinson talks, I just think, why?

They also attempt to have a lighthearted and entertaining show while discussing sports. It doesn't sound fake or forced either.

A show no one here talks about

He's as interesting as a discussion about the benefits of asexuality

I don't think we talk about sports shows anymore.

I like sports talk that can be informative and entertaining without beating me over the head with other stuff every day. This show pulls that off.

You're still my guy.

Agreed. I enjoy the good natured ballbusting that fuels much of the show. It's the rare Score show that's actually fun to listen to.

I think Shane and Tannehill also add just the right amount of banter.

Nas and TM obviously lost a few bets to Danny Boy.....

Anything good on that show comes from Spiegs. Think about that. (Actually, I've always liked Spiegs.)

Very rough take.

Parkins can approximate something like that but Speigs is a brutal listen. They have some producer talent but the show will always be dragged down by one of the hosts.

Spiegel is good on the afternoon show because he is playing a character inspired by MJH rather than just being himself.

I basically had it on all the time from the beginning until a month into the B&B Penn St. talk. It's at the point right now where it's mostly the weekend shows or podcast episodes that feature an interview with a guest I like.

They're certainly not perfect, but they clearly have been listening to old Afternoon Saloon tapes and are doing their best to lift everything possible from that show. That's why their shots at Mac seem unwarranted and hypocritical to me.

It’s minorly hilarious to me that posters shit all over 670, say they’ll never listen to it yet the second a host posts all those gripes disappear.

P&S had elements of a listenable show. Parkins has elements of a listenable host. I appreciate he’s defending a radio frequency for some reason. If he stuck to the ‘fun radio’ bit he tried to bring to town I think I’d have kept listening but he gave up on that.

I don’t mind shots at Mac. Talking trash about other hosts was always a great listen.

I just think Parkins needs a better senior host. He’s likeable enough, has a fine voice, has the Chicago sports fan credentials…he just needs somebody to play off and Spiegel is not that guy.

I still turn them on when I’m actually in the car at drive time so I’m not a perfect critic here, but I think they could be better. Parkins & Bernstein with the latter in the old man chair would be podcast worthy.

I'd say some of the shots at Mac go well beyond trash talking, especially from the perpetually discontented Spiegel. When he breaks from character and reveals himself to be the inexplicably entitled narcissist that he seems to be in real life, the show's chemistry dissolves and its momentum evaporates.

I agree that Parkins and Bernstein would be a much better combo than Parkins and Spiegel.

Parkins and Les for the entertainment value.

At least the fat one is interesting, though. And I can't blame him for being pissed at Mac, who left him hanging a few times (though maybe you bury the hatchet after a decade). When Spiegs talks about personal stuff, though, I agree that it's nauseating.
