i looked forward to listening during the score's first decade as much as i would try and listen to e.g. marshall present cbs mystery theatre radio broadcasts during the 70's. as i got older i also enjoyed milt rosenberg on extension 720.

today's score doesn't cut it anymore like an e.g. marshall and milt rosenberg.

It would certainly be news to the Cubs or Bulls if we pull punches because of our business relationships with the teams. The bulls only put guests on one show. I haven’t had a bulls guest since a John Paxson interview. They didn’t like that I promoted Jordan Bell $3.5 million shirts as a joke/stunt. I did enjoy getting Kendall Gill and Mark Schanowski holding them up on the pregame show! That one still makes me laugh even if I completely get why it pissed them off. It happens. I love the bulls and am a genuine fan and wish the relationship was better but it is what it is.

As for the cubs, we talked about Addison Russell, Joe Ricketts’ emails, and plenty of other topics I’m sure they wish we wouldn’t have over the years. The cubs truly don’t care. They run their business like a business. We’re the best radio partner for their business and any headaches that’s created from the commentary is dealt with in a professional manner. I’ve literally never had one issue.

The basic edict is don’t be personal. Talk about their performance and don’t name call on a personal level and we’re good. So we can say someone is incompetent. But we can’t call them ugly or talk about their family. Seems reasonable to me.

Some on here want it to be the 90s. I get it, we all romanticize the past. I loved the Score then. It’s different now. For some, better. For others, worse. That’s the game. But the idea that being in business with teams, which is what helps make our business thrive as the industry adapts, means we aren’t or can’t be critical of the teams is just not true.

Same with the idea that we always talk politics. That’s laughable and clearly comes from someone who doesn’t listen. The NFL has “end racism” in the end zones are the games not happening? Sometimes, protests or controversy or statements in sports cross over into other social issues. Some shows ignore them. Others don’t. It really makes me laugh that some people on here who overwhelmingly seem to lean conservative can’t handle some talk that you disagree with. Seems like some soft snowflake shit to me. You can disagree with my take on sports or movies but god forbid you listen to someone who has a different political ideology and you get all triggered. We’re a talk station. Not always sports. It wasn’t in the 90s. It’s not now.

Carry on.

Having team partnerships really changed the nature of the station. I can't even imagine how Murph would have been able to do his Cubs post-game shows, which were like a Cubs version of Buffone and OB after a Bears game.

Andy McPhail. FAIL! The Score definitely would have made him pump the brakes on that or be fired for failing to do so.

man do i really miss murph.

i remember in the late 80s there was some gambling tv show on one of the UHF channels. 26 or 56? It was only like Friday /Saturday nights and had a guy from chicago and he always had a map of the midwest or other parts of the country behind him - like someone doing the weather. I think he came from sports phone. Anyone remember that guy? He use to take calls on the air too and whenever someone from chicago called in he would precisely talk about the neighborhood streets where the person calling from lived.

+1 to all of that...especially the last paragraph. I think Snowflake every time I read one of those "liberal" complaints on here. Some read politics into everything to which they disagree, despite the fact that actual political statements on the Score are rare and almost never are anything more than a passing subject. Thank you for participating. We miss that since Mac has put us on ignore.

It's good that parko is engaging the fans here. That's essentially what contributed to Mac being a legend.

I started listening in probably late 2002. I was splitting time with ESPN. Mostly ESPN. Murph really turned me off in a big way. That voice. It sounds like what I imagine getting my hand caught in a blender would sound like.

Mully and Haugh is still the best show on the station. It's not as good without Hanley dropping horrid jokes. I miss the old Hanley scale of bad jokes.

The noon to 2 show is about as brutal as any show can be.

But as a member of the nerd committee I have to say... everyone but Mully on this station is a huge nerd. We can all do our own nerd rankings but everybody's top pic is Sir. This is known.

Last thing, lose the kids doing gambling picks. It's brutal. Besides my hands in a blender the worst sound in the world is kids singing followed by kids making gaming picks. Then Murph. Then that Harry interview (which by the way was the biggest Chicago radio disaster since the hindenberg crash).

Anyhoodles, Parko, keep on posting and ill keep giving you this extremely valuable feedback that you clearly cannot love without.

to succeed as a host, you've either got to inform or be funny. And the amount of people who are naturally funny is a short list, so informative is the way to succeed. The best shows did both but weren't beholden to either and zigged when you thought they'd zag.

Parko and Spiegs is a good show. It's the only one I catch on the score. I never flipped over to ESPN, largely because I couldn't get the signal. Now in the internet age I'll catch Kap and Hood on some slight delay mid morning.

Neither is appointment radio unless it's a compelling guest. But I appreciate what drive time has become at the Score now. It'll never be B&B but nothing else really could be. Dan drove that show and Terry was good at taking Dan's A direction and changing it on the fly to B direction and made it look effortless. At the end, he was just taking Dan's A direction and hammering on it till Dan gently directed him in another direction. You always wonder how long they could have gone if Terry hadn't had his large amount of health issues that deteriorated him.

I like this ‘I’m not the snowflake, you’re the snowflake’ bit.

It took lefties a while to respond to the argument that they insulate they themselves from anything they disagree with and need to validate their politics across every aspect of daily life. That they’ve landed on the old rubber/glue paradigm is pretty inspired stuff.

Come on now, this has been an interesting thread thus far. Don't get it sent to the politics section where it will turn into an absolute hellscape.

I'm not looking for you to comment on former colleagues but Julie has said she was talked to both about the Blackhawks and Cubs while a Score employee

Are you really operating under the assumption that it's only one side of the political spectrum that is tribalistic and insular? If so, that may be one of the most naive opinions I've ever read here.

Your previous comment implies that Parkins' response is wholly invalid, when it is only partially so. The sloppy phrasing of your post implies sloppy thinking.

How so? It’s very specific to the word snowflake and how that word has been used by an attack on liberals by conservatives v. how it was used twice preceding my comment.

You globalized that. Seems more a reading comprehension issue to me.

Parkins is on the "right side of history". And if you don't want to hear about it, well it makes you a snowflake.

He is kinda right. There are more examples of Bernsie just wanting to blow Theo then them forcing them to say nice things.

That wouldn’t surprise me if she went after Russell for example. Which leads me to ask Parkins… come on man spill the July dirt.

I generally don't like politics mixed in with my sports talk (which is one of the reasons I listen to 670 vs 820 or 890). However, I agree with Danny that politics mixes in on occasion.

The problem with Score is when that happens, there is only one side represented.

For example, when Kapernick was trying to get back into the league, there were arguments that could be made on each side as to whether to bring him onto your team or not--I would venture to say the country was split 50/50 on that argument. On the Score, I only heard one side--if you didn't think he should be on a team, you were on the wrong side of the argument.

The Score is like "The View" in that respect--one side fits all.

That was a good example. Prior to the kneel down there was a Bears game that made Kap look washed up and done. Then the controversy and you couldn’t find a guy that would say he was a bad and back up at least. Or say Kap turned down back up chances.
