-9 or fewer yards to go for a 1st down; 15rec 141 yards.
-10+ yards to go for a 1st down; 38rec, 398 yards. (He does have 12 catches for a first down on 1st & 10)
-4 red zone catches

Oh, and he hasn't caught a touchdown pass since 12/6/2020 against the Lions.

Again gd, tell your statistics to shut up.

Finishes the season 12th in receptions and 12th in yards for TE. I think he showed progress over the last quarter+ of the season and I think his blocking also improved. The glaring deficiency is 0 TD, but Bears QB threw 16 total so there weren't many available there and he was a tertiary target in the red zone with Graham still on the team. He improved dramatically in just about every category from his first year. You certainly can upgrade if someone more dynamic falls into your lap but he is a perfectly acceptable middle of the road starter.

Lot of tight end injuries this year, those numbers are deceiving.

Of all the problems on the Bears, he's far down the list. If youre going to blame Nagy for why Fields sucks (Because that cant possibly be true, he's a star in the making if only....) , why doesnt Kmet get the same grace ? Why wasnt Nagy scheming better plays for him to get him open ?

He's 12th in the NFL for tight ends in receptions and 9th in targets

He had 2 catches for a first down on 3rd and 4th down. He had 5 red zone receptions, 0 of them inside the opponents 10 yard line. He has 7 career penalties (4 this year, 3 last year) and 2 career TD catches (0 this year).

Tell your statistics to shut up.

I don't have to tell your statistics to shut up as they are relatively silent on their own. The Bears had a grand total of 16 TD passes thrown, 4th worst in the league, and paid Jimmy Graham $8 million to be the designated red zone TE. He caught 3. I don't even know what to do with your penalty stat as you provide no context where it ranks in the NFL for TE and it seems insignificant on its face.

How many times did they throw to him on 3rd and 4th down? How many times did they throw to him in the red zone? How many times did they throw to him inside the ten?

The better question is what is his catch % in those areas because I think that weeds out uncatchable balls that are still counted as targets

and I agree that his TD catches are one very glaring deficiency

I think we are plagued at this place with people who don't watch anything but Bear football and so, have no understanding what a middle of the pack starting TE looks like statistically

he doesnt do anything well. he does a few things ok. he has size but doesnt have the athleticism to make use of it. despite his size he goes down on first contact almost every time. he's fine but I dont see anything that makes me think he's going to drastically improve and become a difference maker

so...an average starting NFL TE

and he's reached that status as a second year player

5rec on 12 targets. 0rec on 4 targets inside the 10.

If he's as good as you say he is, a team that struggles in the red zone as bad as the Bears did should be leaning on Kmet heavily in that area of the field. Part of that surely was Nagy sucks, but part of is that Kmet isn't real good either.

There are a host of NFL TEs that had four penalties this year, but only five guys TE who had more.

I think if I uttered the name "Noah Fant", everyone would immediately rank him better than Kmet.

I'd say their situations are comparable in terms of their priority in the offense and quality of the QB play. Fant is one year older and drafted much higher. They are almost identical statistically, especially in their second years.

I say, and I thought I was completely clear in this, he is average NFL starting TE good. I don't see how even your stats dispel that

I also think he is at that level as a second year player at a position that usually takes time to develop.

Good/bad is subjective. I think he has the career similar statistics and compares to Kyle Rudolph.

Kyle Rudolph caught 9 TDs in his second year, and 3 in eight games in his 3rd year. I feel comfortable saying that Kmet will have fewer than 12 TDs catches by the mid point of next season.
Rudolph has 49 career TD catches, 47 of which were caught before the 2020 season began. I'll take the under on 49 career TD catches as well.

Maybe under a different offense and with Fields as his regular QB he improves, but as of right now Kmet is below average and should be looked upon to be upgraded

Edit- Rudolph made the Pro Bowl in year #2 with Christian Ponder as his QB

As a "starting TE" I feel that some of the gravy plays he should have gotten touchdowns on involved Graham instead of Kmet in the formation. That Graham pretty much only catches TDs limited Kmets potential, don't you think?

You take one stat, and one that has a lot of subjective in a way similar to RBI, and are like

as if you've proven your point

of course. He would be a top 10 pick this year and will be whenever he chooses. His hype will be similar to Pitts, except he also blocks.

Like you did in this thread four different times in this thread by listing Kmet's receiving yards?

with less than 10 yards per reception on 53

I take that back. Kmet will be better than Rudolph
