It is certainly easy to get into Marshall/UIC, and if you wanted to go from Marshall to a white shoe law firm like Winston & Strawn, you're going to have a difficult road. However, I know some fine attorneys that went to Marshall and underestimating someone based on their law school is a foolish thing to do.

That's on you if you interpret the job of prosecutor or judge to be underestimating someone.

I imagine the top slice of students at Marshall get recruited by big firms and take the opportunity to pay down their debt. State level criminal justice system staffed by prosecutors and judges who were C students at B law schools is par for the course in every state it seems. You don't even have to have much experience to be a judge in state court these days; often appointed to fill a vacancy a few years out of law school for solely political reasons and then sustained in the position by the power of unelected incumbency

Darko wanted that. I assume family member? My nephew in Crystal Lake is disabled but we treat him normal and he became a HS mascot of sorts. I hate to hear/read the word but all it does is inform me about the speaker/writer.

You're a better person than me I guess. I have been offended by words and have come to blows or nearly come to blows with people in my past because of words.

I initially thought that our community had evolved enough that the filters weren't necessary. That's why I removed the BigFan era filters. I was clearly wrong. I don't have an issue with the new filters even though they were initially annoying.

So there was no intent to disparage Marshall in your post? Peeps seemed to interpret your post the same way I did when he compared Marshall to IBC.

It's interesting how some of the more conservative people here detest the R-word. Maybe they are more intelligent or there's some other pattern.

I am attaching no criticism here, because Dr. Ken and Darko are two people who have expressed their distaste with it, as well as Mike, who used to be my guy.

I think the liberal slanted change the r word from simply a old definition or descriptor to a derogatory slur. Developmentally disabled is what it is now. If you want to call LTG a retard I give a fuck.

I was a lot younger and it didn't take much. I haven't had a fight outside a gym in over 20 years. I have a little bit more self control today and a slightly better understanding of people and tendencies.

Were you really offended by the words themselves or by the way they were used?

I didn't say I've never been offended. Just that simply seeing or hearing a word doesn't offend me. I don't mind hearing "fuck" but I get offended if someone says "fuck you" to me.

I couldn't disagree more. If we looked down on every childhood insult then we wouldn't have many insults left. I personally used to use the "r-word" almost daily before I started posting here. Even in the workplace. I never saw it as an attack on a mentally challenged person. Just like I never saw telling someone that they did something "like a girl" to be an attack on girls or calling someone a sissy to be an attack on gays. They were just things that were said without much thought.

No need to make someone the worst person in the world because they haven't evolved the way that you did.

I've mentioned it, but filters are hopefully useful in stopping the shitty posters from making the good posters quit posting. You can rightfully think we shouldn't filter anything, but if GENERIC UNNAMED GOOD POSTERS quit because below replacement level poster nobody would really miss keeps posting something lame it's not really helping the "community" to just let it go because of integrity or something.

So called good posters did complain and so called bad posters did frequently abuse the filterless system.

It's not necessarily calling someone that. I mean look, this thread is a respectable exchange of ideas because no one wants to be insulting. In large part because punching down or being insulting stifles conversations.

Also well said. I have gotten on posters about this and have defended others. In the end, censoring (or whatever you'd call it) is almost always a bad idea, but as JORR has said before, this is a community, and it would be nice to keep it going.

Would be great to have more habitual posters, too. It's getting a little thin.

I'm not in favor of filtering anything. Live and let fly. If you are offended by something someone says call them on it. Don't ask for the words to be deleted, omitted, or the person to be banned. But do call them on it if the words bother you.

It's funny, I like many classmates of color interviewed with the State's Attorneys office. None of us us got a second interview. That b.itch Andrea Zopp didn't extend an offer to her niece and asked me how in the world I could understand Chicago issues.

Then that b.itch got appointed to lead the local Urban League.

This is where the current culture sucks so bad- I agree that IF a professor uses inappropriate language to describe a student or routinely references a group in such a way, they should be told that their behavior is inappropriate and should stop doing so and apologize.

Which this professor clearly did, despite no one from previous classes or even this class uttering a word in real time.

It should end there, with this professor proving through his actions he sees the students side of the remarks and removing them, if unneeded. If not, then, further action may be called for.

I'd like to evaluate the scores of the affected students and their semester grades prior to the exam, to decide on the motivation for their response.

Oh, and take a look at their playlist, and let's check their Twitter pretty soon, too.
