This weekly wagering contest will reward the best football prognosticator with a $100 gift certificate from a meat/steak company. New guys can still join in any time and you don't have to make a pick every week. Post them all at once or in separate posts, but they must be posted in the current week's contest thread. Post your plays any time, but they must be posted before a game you are playing kicks off. You must make your picks in this thread and you must provide at least one reason for each pick. Minimum 50 picks to qualify by the end of the contest.

St. Louis +8 vs. Buffalo (L)
Chicago +3 vs. Philly (W)
Oakland +7.5 vs. San Diego (L)

(2-3 Sunday; 5-6 total. I should have had the Oakland game, but I probably shouldn't have had the Buffalo game, so it evens out. Bad week.)

Wake Forest -15.5 against Navy

The Wake defense is simply dominating. Navy runs the ball extremely well, but I think Wake's D is good enough to shut down a one dimensional team. Navy will put the ball in the air at some point and Wake will pick it for a TD.

Northwestern +7.5 at Iowa

This is going to be a defensive battle. Strongly consider the under here. I think this game will be a 17-14 type of finish.

Miami -7.5 against North Carolina

UNC looked incredibly human after their starting QB went down with a season ending injury last week.

Purdue +2.5 at ND

Purdue is going to win this game outright, and I will be there to see it.

Minnesota +17.5 at Ohio State

Ohio State has been terrible at covering a line this year.

Virginia Tech +7 at Nebraska

These are two evenly matched teams. Like NU v. IA this is going to be a defensive matchup. I see this one being 21-17.

Alabama +6.5 at Georgia

Huge game and the points seem fat to me.

Auburn -6.5 against Tennessee

The only way I can make a case for the Vols is a let down for Auburn after LSU. Still, it is rare that defense lets down and Auburn wins with defense.

Wisconsin -6.5 at Michigan

LOVE this game. Wisky should be able to run all day on a weak Michigan D.

Colorado +6 at FSU

I think the Buffs have enough O to keep close. The question is can FSU keep up with Colorado

Troy +17 at Oklahoma State

Similar to last week. Troy is a small school powerhouse. They have played in bigger places than this. They also play great D so teams rarely are able to run away and hide on them. They kept it close for most of the game against Ohio State last week and should do it again for the cover this week.

Panthers -7
Steelers -7

Thursday night scorefest to kick off the weekend of foots:
SMU-Tulane OVER 49
June Jones vs. Bob Toledo. Two coaches known for their O than their D. The Jones boys finally gets a D they can handle. Yes, Tulane leads the nation in sacks, but their pass defense really hasn't been tested. And on paper, it's young, inexperienced and vulnerable. Time to see if the paper is right. On the other side, Toledo's boys should have some fun running and throwing against a Mustangs D that is arguably the worst in the nation.

A Monday night blowout to end the weekend of foots:
Pittsburgh Steelers -5.5 vs. Baltimore
The Ravens have beaten two of the worst ten teams in the league in Cleveland and Cincinnati, yet the linesmakers and bettors are giving them a lot of credit with this line. I still believe the Ravens are also a bottom ten team. The Steelers are the fifth best team in the league by my numbers whose only loss is to the third or fourth best team in the league. Ravens are a very soft 2-0 in my world, but that gives us value in this line. Using my two line-making systems, I make it 9 and 12. Other people clearly value Baltimore more highly than I do. And I get the steelers home on Monday night after a loss? Lay em.

Oregon St +25 over USC

Home team has covered last 5 in series. USC whuppin of Ohio St gives Oreg St some good value.

Week 5 Top 25 Rundown Part II

TCU @ Oklahoma -18 1/2

Sooners have put up fiddy in all three of their games. Horny Frogs impress, but can't handle this step up in weight class.

Alabama +6 1/2 @ Georgia

Georgia and Alabama have met five times when both were ranked, with the Bulldogs winning all five meetings. Team Saban is fully operational, the Criminal Tide will stay close.

Ole Miss @ Florida -22

Gator D won't let Rebels over the 50 yard line. Miss QB Snead will wish he was still at Texas. Tebow and pals run wild.

Miss St. @ LSU -25

LSU has defeated the Bulldogs (1-3, 0-1) eight straight times by an average margin of 32.4 points since a 17-16 road loss Oct. 23, 1999. The total for this game is 39 1/2, Miss may end up with negative points by the end of this one.

Arkansas @ Texas -27 1/2

Game delayed two weeks by the hurricane. Colt Cabana had the same number of TD's and incomplete passes last week v. Rice, 4. Petrino is still a dirtbag and will get a pummeling. Pummala, pummala, pummala, pummala...

Wisconsin -6 @ Michigan

Wisconsin hasn't won at Michigan Stadium since 1994, but it has beaten the Wolverines twice in the last three seasons at home. Whatca gonna do when PJ Hill runs wild on you????

Illinois + 16 1/2 @ Penn State

This ain't Temple, PSU. Penn State is relatively healthy, but its one injury of note is to Joe Paterno, who's been bothered by a sore right leg since the 81-year-old coach attempted an onside kick at practice several weeks earlier.

South Florida -9 1/2 @ NC State

Can the Wolfpack provide another stunner this week. ECU was 10 point favs at NC State and that didn't go so well. Grothe will throw all ova the place. N.C. State's leading tackler will also be sidelined, as linebacker Nate Irving was added to the team's lengthy injury list with a leg problem.

Minnesota +19 @ Ohio State

The Buckeyes will win and fail to inspire.

Tennessee @ Auburn -6 1/2

Vols got crushed at home to the Gators last week. Don't expect them to find their game on the road. Auburn run game will tear up Tenn. D.

Navy +15 1/2 @ Wake Forest

Wake D v. Navy option. Lots of runs and a drippy sky may keep this waaay under the total of 53. Navy RB Shun White will try and maintain his 10.7 ypc CAREER average.

Weber St (3-1, 1-0 Big Sky)
(17) Utah (4-0, 2-0 MWC)

Maryland (3-1, 0-1 away)
(20) Clemson (3-1, 1-0 ACC)

Houston (1-3, 0-2 away)
(23) East Carolina (3-1, 1-0 C-USA)

(25) Fresno St (2-1, 2-0 away)
UCLA (1-2, 0-1 Pac-10)

College football from pinnacle sports

Northwestern +8 vs Iowa- I just think Iowa still hasn't made a decision at quarterback that they will stick with, and with Sutton playing, I give the edge to the Wildcats to keep it close.

Miami -7.5 vs North Carolina- The Canes are back and get revenge on Butch Davis, North Carolina on the backup, if the starter didn't get hurt, this would be the game of the week.

Purdue +1.5 vs Notre Dame- Call me crazy, I actually think Purdue may win this one, if the Boiler D can get pressure on the quarterback, it would be a big positive.

Minnesota +19 vs Ohio State- I have bought into the Gophers and they bring a spread offense, Ohio State did not look good last week, where again you can call me crazy, I would not be suprised if Minnesota won this game.

Auburn -6.5 vs Tennesee- It may take Auburn a little while to take control of this game after last week, and I think Tennesee is bad this year.

Great situation as it's a bad spot for Ball. I liked this three points lower. Eight of clubs play now.

From Oddsmaker or SBG

Penn St -15.5 over Illinois

Penn St is the class of the Big 10 this year. They handled Oreg St easily a few weeks ago and we saw what Oreg St did to USC Thursday. Penn St by 20+.

NIU -6.5 over E Mich

E Mich has gotten lit up the last few weeks. Road team covered last 7 in series.

Northwestern +8 over Iowa

Dog is 8-2 last 10 including 3 straight SU wins. Iowa O doesn't impress me.

Miss +22.5 over Florida

Miss has covered last 4 against Fla. Fla is 1-6 ATS after Tenn. I think Miss has enough to stay within 3 TD's.

Maryland +11 over Clemson

Road team has covered last 4. Until Clemson proves they can cover as a fav.

Notre Dame -1 over Purdue

Expecting a bounceback from Notre Dame this week. First RG for Purdue.

From The Greek:

NCAA

Northwestern +8 @ Iowa

Cats keep their Big 11 opener close in Iowa City.

Auburn -6 1/2 vs Tennessee

Tigers take out last week's tough loss against a mediocre Vols team.

Over 48 Ole Miss/Florida

Tebow puts up plenty of points both in the air and on the ground in this one.

NFL

Over 48 49ers/Saints

There might be no defense played in this one.

Over 44 1/2 Browns/Bengals

Just like last season, defense is few and far between in the battle of Ohio.

Eagles -3 @ Bears

Bears have no answer for Eagles offense and defense, even with no Westbrook.

From thegreek.com:

Purdue (+1.5) against Notre Dame
Notre Dame showed their true colors last week against the Big Ten.

Purdue / Notre Dame over (46)
Showing their true colors but still putting up some points.

Georgia (-7) over Alabama
With USC losing Thursday, Georgia is primed to regain the top spot.

Wisconsin (-4.5) over Michigan
The Big House won't be big for the Wolverines in this game.

Green Bay (+1.5) against Tampa Bay
The Bucs should have lost to the Bears. I just hope the Packers don't wilt in the heat.

San Diego (-7) over Oakland
The real Chargers showed up last week and I think they'll dominate in this game as well.

NFL SUnday from pinnacle sports

Broncos and Chiefs over 47- The Broncos score a lot and let the other teams score, so the Broncos may put up 30 but allow 20.

Browns +3.5 vs Bengals-The Browns don't get this one, it will be Brady Quinn time.

Saints -4 vs 49ers- This spread has come down from the 6 at the beginning of the week, and the Saints need it and should get it.

Chargers -9 vs Raiders- Reports are that if the Rams lose, their coach is fired, well after the Chargers trash the Rams, the former L.A. teams will both have new coaches by their next game.

Eagles -3 vs Bears- Kyle Orton probably isn't getting much sleep after the watching what the Eagles did to Roethlisberger last week and I see more of the same, with Eagles putting up more points.

I liked the Saints before the two point move. 49ers beat a horribly banged up Seabags team, but that doesn't mean they have risen in the power ratings to just 1 point below the Saints. Who among us would make this matchup Saints -1 on a neutral field?

Carolina -6.5 vs. Atlanta (Bookmaker)
Falcons look like one of those teams that can play with the bottom ten, but are over-matched against the better teams. So by my #s I see line value here as my PR on Atlanta varies depending on the quality of the opposition.

sabu picks (with mario puzo references)

Saints -4 (leave the gun take the cannolis)

Green Bay +1.5 (I wish to thank you for a wonderful evening, now I would ask your driver to take me to the airport, Mister Corleone is a person who wishes to hear bad news in person)

Minnesota over 35.5 (and they do violence in their, in their Grandmother's neighborhoods. And everything with them is whores -- whores! La vegana -- junk dope! And they leave the gambling to last. Now I want to run my family without you on my back, and I want those Rosato brothers dead! )

San Diego -8 (hes got them twin caporegimes tessio and that fat clemenza) fade oakland they way you fade mike north

Buffalo -9 (Uh, senator -- you can have my answer now if you like. My offer is this -- nothing. Not even the fee for the gaming license, which I would appreciate if you would put up personally. ) same argument, just substitute st louis for oakland [its like MAD LIBS]
