Prediction : Only Big Papi gets in. Schilling gets snubbed again.

If you won't vote for Bonds, I can't see justifying a vote for Ortiz.

And some nitwit on the MLB Network was suggesting that the career and numbers for Bobby Abreu were similar to those of Tony Gwynn. Showing how stupid many voters are.

Tracker of public ballots submitted so far has Bonds, Clemens, Ortiz over 75%, but this doesn't include private ballots, which usually ding the PED guys:

https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?res ... 6pmWGGlQsI
Quote:
The question that remains for Ortiz is whether his drop from what the Tracker shows on announcement day resembles what we've seen from Bonds and Clemens (they dropped more than 11 percent last year) or less (Andruw Jones, for example, dropped 5.1 percent, while Todd Helton only fell 2.4 percent)," Thibodaux said. "If the post-results public voters and private voters treat Ortiz like they treat Bonds and Clemens, Ortiz is likely to fall short of 75 percent. If they treat him more charitably as they tend to do for most other candidates, then he has a real chance to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer

I agree, except for Shilling. I go the Hub Arkush route with him.

The tracker is consistently like 10 percent more than the actual vote results. So those Bonds/Clemens probably don't get in.

I keep hearing Mark Bhurle has no shot. Why? He was one of the best pitchers in the game when he played.

He was not. All Time great Sox player, but he never finished in the Top 5 for Cy Young voting. A deserving All Star at times and deserving of having his #56 retired, but he is not a Hall of Famer ya rube.

You sure about that? Bobby Abreu is a really underrated player. Obviously, Gwynn was a better hitter for average than Abreu but Abreu actually got on more. And there are a lot of other things that Abreu did better than Gwynn.

I am absolutely positive.

There is no universe where Abreu is better than Gwynn.

Like strike out- to the tune of 1800+ vs 437.

Their OBP and OPS numbers are very similar. Gwynn has career WAR by 9

Agreed on Beurhrle.

And while Bonds is arguably the biggest pos of the last 40 years, Shilling is second and a phony grandstanding pos to boot. Plus I never saw him as an all time great, just a moth.

I am not arguing that Buehrle deserves in because I agree that he doesn't. But at some point HOF is going to need to be redefined for this era of pitching or no one is going to be a HOFer for a long time.

And pulled two under talented teams to the World Series. Not to mention better defense. And iirc a couple of MVP awards as well.

Big Papi did steroids but he's getting in because he wasn't an asshole and was the media's darling in Boston. Plus he was nice to the writers which goes a long way w/ that petty profession.

If the redefine this era of pitching, which I think they should do, then Buehrle is probably getting in at some point.

That isn't a great argument for saying Gwynn is that much better. 9 player value points over two long careers isn't much. They're completely different types of players, but from a value standpoint, they aren't a lot different.

Except for the 1980 World Series, I loved Pete Rose. And if the game can sell out to gambling websites, enough is enough for Pete.

Agreed, but Sosa, McGwire, and Rafael Palmiero are justifiably out.

The average right fielder that is already in the Hall of Fame has a WAR of 71.1, Abreu has a WAR of 60.2. However, he's closer in peak WAR (average HOF right fielder: 42.4, Abreu 41.6): https://blogs.fangraphs.com/jaws-and-th ... bby-abreu/.

All that being said, when he was playing, did anyone here view him as one of the MLB's top 5 players? Or even top 10 players? I know I didn't. He was also only selected to just two Allstar games.
