Amazed by how much the locals despise Southern Californian's, especially LA people, every local from Uber drivers, cocktail waitresses, bellhops, bartenders, and especially the security guys had bad things to say, after encountering numerous LA people would have to say that they are like 11 years olds, but imagine a group of 11 year olds that are frequently stoned and struggle with hygiene.

Payouts on slots are low, but much more frequent than the half a dozen midwest casinos I have tried, this was great for Mrs. Claw who loves her minimum bet penny slots.

Exhibits of people acting out of control after a few beers, completely foreign to someone that spends any time in Wisconsin.

Commiserated with guys from all over the country about the piss poor beer selection, almost everyone that knows anything about beer enjoys Leinie's.

Happy to return to a land where there is enough water to successfully run sewage systems adequately, locals are terrified they will run out of water soon and the whole thing will have to shut down.

Only been once....10 years ago. Enjoyable trip and I'm glad I can say I've been there once. My observations:
- Nothing inexpensive about eating or drinking there even when you are gambling
- Great people watching just walking up and down the strip.
- Anything more than 2 nights is overkill
- It's overrated. Nothing to see and I really don't like gambling much. I will never understand why people to there repeatedly.

Did you play in "Strip" or Freemont Street? Freemont Street pays out more IMO, but it's a bitch to get to if you don't have a car.

You have to leave the strip area to find north priced alcohol.

You must have been in a bad space when you went. I don't think Vegas is the greatest thing ever, but something "fun" is happening around the clock.

Edit: No need to ever eat at a buffet. They suck, but MANY feel like that's a Vegas perk.

No worries. Once the Electoral College is eliminated, California will have the power to drink the Great Lakes milkshake.

Best time to go is when there is an event (Mayweather Fight, New Years, Memorial Day Weekend, Bears Game etc) going on. I have been for those and also been just to "go to Vegas for the Weekend" and its no comparison. Its best when there is something happening on that particular weekend.

I understood in 2020, but I wouldn't want to go to Vegas on NYE and I definitely wouldn't want to come with a significant other.

Not a Vegas fan. We will go in May for the 2nd year in a row and 4th in the last 6 to bowl the USBC Open nationals. My favorite part of Vegas is leaving.

Did both, oddly hit for $650 on minimal bet at Bally's, and Mrs. C hit for $250, both seemed anomalies because we rarely get big hits on the minimums at penny slots, gave back a few hundred the rest of the trip. Mrs C was able to play for 5 hours on Saturday on Freemont street, never hit big, but only lost $70, but the cost of the free drinks we were getting while playing more than made up for it, would have had a great trip if Rodgers hadn't screwed up the last leg of my playoff parlay.

Had a similar thought, would go maybe every 3-5 years, but perfectly happy hitting the Midwest casino circuit where you can drink much cheaper and get either comped or super cheap hotel rooms. Get to act the fool where nobody knows me and something about the odd sounds and lights in the casino somehow detaches my brain from all things work related.

The reason the Vegas locals hate the LA dwellers is that pretty soon, many of those LA dwellers will be Vegas dwellers.

I have been there only twice, and enjoyed both visits, but it’s not a place that I feel the need to revisit.

....like Super Bowl weekend. I've been doing it for a while. Casinos have "Big Game" parties, buffet and free booze in a function room. Those tickets become free after a year or two going there that particular weekend, along with comped hotel nights.

South Point? I've been to a couple of our trade shows there, but it has been 10 years. I've been to Vegas twice on vacation around 20 years ago and 4x for work. I don't think I would go
back to spend my own money and free time there again. It's certainly something to see and experience but now that I am on the back nine of life I really don't have the interest to witness
the douchebaggery. I avoid downtown Nashville for the exact same reason. I was there a few years ago for work and have no interest in going back to Broadway again. I will say that when I
was gambling I did enjoy the Fremont Street experience and vibe a bit more and it was a hell of a lot easier to get around to multiple casinos.

I used to travel nationally for work and have been to Vegas 15-20 times since the mid-90s. I get why people who haven't been there want to go. I'm just thankful that I never have to go back.

Showing how long ago I bowled in Vegas, it was at the Showboat. I think that place saw the wrecking ball 20 years ago or so. That place had over 100 lanes. I can't even imagine a time where any place would need 100 lanes, but bowling used to really be a thing back in the day, and that place was the mecca for bowling for a long time. By the way, that place was TERRIBLE to stay at, too far away from everything.

I love Vegas. I went three times last year, and I typically go twice a year. I used to love to gamble, but that has lost its luster over the years. I only gamble in Vegas now, which makes it more fun than if I went to the local casinos all the time. The sports book gambling is great especially when you sit in the book while the games are on.

I enjoy the restaurants and the summer pool scene. The people watching is fantastic.

To keep it fresh I have changed the games I play. I used to be hard core blackjack and then live hold em. Now I prefer craps and pai gow tiles (not the card version). Unfortunately, I cannot find Carib Stud anymore. The Venetian used to have a table, but they got rid of them.

It helps that I go with a fun group of friends.

I haven't gone in at least 15 years, maybe more. I used to love going when I was young and unattached. We used to go every year for a weekend. The casino's started an airline that flew, I think, only from Chicago, NY, LA to LV. The flights were dirt cheap and they had a great schedule for working people going for a long weekend. The agenda for the weekend was always the same: get there Thursday night around 10 pm, drink and gamble until 4-5 am, sleep it off until a big guy's dinner followed by partying, Saturday in the sports book for football whenever you were able to wake, Sunday fly home with contemplation of suicide on your mind.

The last time I went was when I was married with a kid and my wife was pregnant with another. It didn't feel right to leave her home like that for something so indulgent. I was also mid thirties by then and starting to get to the far edges of the young douchebag crowd Las Vegas was trying to attract back in those days.

It seemed to me in the years from my early 20s to my late 30s, the place changed from all of the circuses being inexpensive as a way to get you to gamble to all of the circuses being expensive with gambling being just another thing to do during the trip. All of the restaurants seemed to turn into those places where the waiters are aggressively trying to upsell you on sides and alcohol with the implication that you weren't a player if you didn't buy.

I don't know what it is now. There was a time of about 10 years where you couldn't turn on the tv without seeing a commercial, travel/food show or some promotion for LV. I don't see that any more but then again, I'm not the target any more.

I'd like to go back. I wanted to go for the Bears. I'd go back for a football or NCAA Tournament weekend. I think I'd even go for a nice weekend with my wife where I didn't gamble at all. I'd take an easy flight, go to a show and some nice restaurants, swim a little, maybe hike or something. It is pretty reasonable for a weekend if you are comparing it to staying at an upscale beach resort.

I think Vegas is actually better with a rental car. Stay at the Red Rock or another hotel away from the strip. You can drive to the strip for a night if you want but the outer casinos are just as nice on the inside. You can do some of the underrated nature stuff like Red Rock Canyon as a break from drinking and gambling. They have Giordano's now too so that's good for a city guy like yourself.

See that's just it.
Yes, I know one guy who goes regularly. He gets comp'd and upgraded quite a bit, but that takes an investment.

I had a good time and enjoyed myself, but not enough regularly and make that kind of investment.

Freemont Street was interesting. I found that to be one of the more enjoyable things we did.

This is perplexing to me. I thought a main reason to keep gambling was free drinks. Even video poker at the bar was supposed to get you beer. Has that changed now too?

The last place I know that has it is Horseshoe in Hammond. The casinos have taken out slow games like Carib Stub and Pai Gow Tiles. They put alternative versions that move faster and make a better ROI on the floor space.

Oh well.

I am also noticing the big FU to the small guy for higher minimum bets. I get the supply/demand when the kick them up but some places just start at $10 and so be it. Some games make that $40-50 a hand.
