Interested in NO, have heard from numerous people that you just need a day or two and of course to never go in summer/fall.

Do love the Cajun stuff and drinking, so think it would be great with the right group of people.

Have to find something that interests me, if there's no gambling, drinking, or fishing I get bored quickly, no longer have the drag kids anywhere, so can pursue adult entertainment, will not miss the days of packing up the van and hauling kids to the Dells or Florida.

I had a blast in New Orleans and it was fall, Octoberish I believe. If you find yourself in New Orleans and get tired of Bourbon Street or the Casinos hit up the Roosevelt Hotel downtown and The Sazerac Bar.

Never been to Vegas and have no plans to. When I was in college in Dubuque I'd go to the Diamond Jo casino all the time because it was the only thing other than Walmart and Perkins that was open past midnight. Free soda, so as someone who didn't drink that was fine. Never spent more than $50 in a night, most were around $20. Won like $500 on Caribbean Stud once and went straight to Walmart at 2AM and bought a new TV for the dorm room. A big old 27 inch tube. Huge.

I also did the Hurricane Katrina Tour. This was 2009 so only four years post Hurricane. For the record it was with a group and I voted against tour as I found it in poor taste but still had to go. It was interesting though. I don't know if the 2022 tour will still be as good. We drove by Fats Dominos old house.

I have been going since the mid 80's. At least twice a year back then but much less now. In my view they have killed the golden goose; everything has gotten quite expensive. As others have mentioned now we will probably just plan trips around events. We did the Bears game and had a blast. Hope to do the Hawks some day. But also enjoy the summer pool scene so we may need to go back sometime just for that.

We went to NOLA in Jan. 2020. Love it there. It was 80ish all weekend. Royal House for oysters. Garden District walk. Great times.

Savannah is on our list as well.

Along with those upgrades and other stuff -- I know you get free parking. They stopped that with Gold a few years ago.

They also stopped serving free "premium" liquor for Gold at the sportsbook bar in Bally's. I remember getting a free drink ticket just a few years ago for placing even something as small as a $25 bet. When I went to see Chappelle and Rogan last summer -- I had to bet $100 to get ONE drink ticket. And then the asshole at the bar told me I couldn't order a white russian because it has Kahlua in it -- and that's a premium liquor. I was so enraged, explaining how little and insignificant the price of a shot of Kahlua is. He agreed and then proceeded to ask if I was a platinum member . I could order the white russian if I was platinum. He claimed it was temporary because of COVID and the loss of tourists and income blah blah blah. I felt like I was in that Black Mirror episode when he asked me that question -- all over a 50 cent shot of Kahlua.

Sports wagering is a go now in Louisiana.

I’m not a big shooter. Veterans get a platinum card if they can prove with paperwork DD214 etc.

Edit: I picked to go with Caesar’s as they pretty much own everyone now anyway.

Regarding Vegas, the last time I was there we chose the Trump hotel, which was great mainly because it is not a casino. You don't have to walk through a mile-long maze to get to the elevators, yet you are right next to the Wynn, Venetian, etc. We got upgraded to a penthouse suite for something insane like $250, maybe due to Trump's unpopularity.

It still stings a little that my boy chose DC over NO. However, my youngest has developed a strong liking for the town after our college tours there so maybe I still have a chance.

When we go, we don't have really spend any time on Bourbon Street. All of the streets surrounding Bourbon St have much better bars. COVID has obviously had an impact, but our bar list of non-Bourbon St bars...

Frenchman's Street has some great bars and is not nearly as touristy. As I recall maybe a 10 minute walk from bourbon st. Or a short uber.

I have friends who live in the Quarter, so my list is biased on their regular hangouts.

No shortage of great food and bars. Tons of options.

NO's food is fantastic. If you don't like fish, try the red beans and rice or the muffaletta.

I stayed at the Hotel Monteleone the one time I was down there for a postal conference. This must have been 2003 or 2004. Thought Bourbon was fun, hotel was nice and we had a few nice dinners but I found the expo center and most of the rest of the city that I saw to be filthy dirty. Really haven't had any interest in going back since, but sounds like I should give it another shot.
