Cap smart is important. If he can get that nailed down along with his reported scouting capabilities, this should be a good hire.

Even more important will be his first decision. Tough job.

The Bears always have plenty of cap space and they still suck. Just draft better.

His stock has fallen. Only the Broncos requested to interview him.

You'd think Poles would do him a solid and request an interview, just to keep the guy's prospects alive. Plus, it would make it look like Poles has some say in the final decision instead of having to choose from the three people the Bears seem locked on.

His scouting ability has been touted, but none of his supporters have substantiated their claims by providing a list of successful players that he identified and the Chiefs selected.

His cap savvy is purely theoretical since the K.C. reporter speaking to Holmes was simply speculating that sound cap management is something Poles "must have picked up" from Veach.

I think Quinn is the hot coaching candidate around the league and he allegedly prefers the Bears. I think Poles may have to decide quickly where he wants to plant his flag.

Not for nothing but Mahomes’ cap hit is going to be like 30% of the total cap in a couple years.

If Justin Fields get to the NFC Title game, wins a Super Bowl, wins another NFC Title game, and then plays in a 4th consecutive NFC Title, I'll forgive Poles if he gives a third of the 2027 cap to his the quarterback.

Fair.

I think it’s 25% within the next 2 years, which is the same type of thing that people say make it impossible for GB to keep Rodgers. But it’s a first class problem.

His contract was designed to move those cap hits into the future.

He doesn't care about concussions, but he does care about pronoun usage.

It would be especially delightful for a guy named Poles.

I’m kind of positioning myself as the Mahomes’ contract bad guy, which is unfortunate…BUT…

His cap hits are huge starting next year and kicking the can has rarely been praised as ‘cap smart.’

Ability to recognize talent and quickly move on from mistakes should be the first trait you look for in a GM. Drafting well is the only way to build your team that works, if you miss in the draft you have to throw tons of paper at overpriced free agents to plug holes.

Will be able to tell a lot about how he approaches his first offseason, there are likely a bunch of guys on the roster, especially on offense that will be gone, how will he fill those holes? At least he seems to recognize you need to invest in the offensive line and should understand you need to build around your QB.

Let's just hope he doesn't end up being fleeced like Pace was for draft picks by the rest of the league, one thing is certain, the rest of the GM's were sad to see Ryan Pace go.

If a 36 year old has been ready to lead a football organization "for years", football must not be as complicated as they make it out to be.

Will Poles hide from the media behind the head coach like Ryan Pace? Will George let him?

Cap smart is important. If he can get that nailed down along with his reported scouting capabilities, this should be a good hire.

Even more important will be his first decision. Tough job.

IF he were smart, he would look to unload some of these older defensive players ASAP. Mack would be on the top of that list. If he could get what the Broncos got for Miller, it would be a win.

No one can truly be ready for a job like that. He may know how to evaluate players, but it will take years for him to understand how to run an entire football operation.

Mack can't be dumped until next year.
