There's talk of Kankakee getting nailed with 2 feet of snow and totals decreasing towards 4 inches by the time you reach the border area this week.
Average models talking a foot at O'Hare.
That sounds like a lot of snow. Big street values.

Could be. Two storms back to back, both of which are capable of dumping 7" of snow. Still a lot depends on the path- especially of the second system- but the middle of the week is probably going to be quite messy for those south of I88, and downright impossible to travel at times for anyone south of I80.

I think snow is starting around 7pm in the Joliet area tomorrow. Not sure about the rest of Chicagoland.

WHEN...From 8 PM this evening to 6 PM CST Wednesday.

IMPACTS...Travel will become very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes on Wednesday. Winds will increase Wednesday and Thursday causing blowing and drifting snow. This will effect all in the warning area but "Ground Blizzard" conditions may exist in more rural and open areas. Visibility may drop sharply and without warning. Travel may be dangerous and impossible at times.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Additional snow may continue beyond the current end time of the Winter Storm Warning into Thursday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The latest road conditions for Illinois can be obtained on the internet at http://www.gettingaroundillinois.com.

Kudos to the forecasters, though. They have been on this since Friday PM/Saturday AM.

yeah in our area they are saying 6 inches and possible freezing rain and sleet. Going to be a mess here for a few days if that happens.

As annoying as the snow is, give me a 12" snowstorm over ice/freezing rain any day of the week. Snow you can generally move around in, albeit much slower. You drive in an icestorm and you're just asking for trouble.

yeah that is what makes things here so bad. We always get ice in some fashion, then usually a little snow on top of it. Its miserable.

Only put this in your machine. It will start every time - even after a Summer off. You don't need additive and it will pull-start. I have a power start but isn't needed. This is pure gas. Starts every time.

there was a huge amount of snow on a tight curve this morning, out in the country. probably snowmobiles pushing it up there. a semi was coming at me right when i saw the snow (the roads were all dry except that one curve). i couldnt really see it because of the truck, and it never crossed my mind that it would be a lot.

the whole curve was ice. i was doing 55mph... i turned as gingerly as i could.. balls in my chest. thought i was going down the hill for sure.

i ended up saving it right before i hit dirt. sure enough, a car stuck down the hill. only one though... it was weird, all of the roads were dry, everywhere, except that one curve.
