I can't be the only person who is fired up for the Olympics? Love the Olympics. There are only a handful of sports I refuse to watch (figure skating, curling, ski jumping). I love the ones where it is 6 snowboarders or skiers lined up and they race down a narrow track with lots of jumps. Those always end with some spectacular pile ups. Also love short track speed skating for the same reason.

My guilty pleasure is cross country skiing. Don't know why, but I really enjoy it. It helps that the announcer treats every second of it like it's the final 5 seconds of a thrilling down to the wire game. Never heard an announcer gets as excited about his sport as this guy does about cross country skiiing.

Plenty of other great sports....downhill skiiing, all the bobsled/luge/skeleton events and I'm probably forgetting a bunch more.

No NHL players which is fine with me. I'll actually be watching the women's hockey for selfish reasons. As a coach for the old man Maccabi team next summer in Israel, there isn't a sport out there that resembles old man no check hockey better than elite women's hockey. I'll be paying close attention to see what systems they are running and if they are doing anything with the offensive zone cycle that I'm not already aware of.

With events happening overnight I'll be going off the grid like I always do so you won't see me posting in here much since I'll usually be about 16 hours behind the coverage.

Did you happen to see who is now coaching Team Canada for Men's Hockey?

Biathlon is a fantastic sport, and I am really looking forward to watching all of those events. I also am fascinated by the strategy behind curling. The premise of the game is so straightforward, but the amount of foresight, strategy and skill required to win an end has always impressed me.

I will watch a little if it's on Peacock, but I hate the US coverage. I much prefer how Eurosport used to do it, where it's 12 hours live and 12 hours replay and it's all sporting events from start to finish and no human interest.

I usually catch a little when channel surfing, but I can't stand any Olympics set in Asia or Australia. There's even less drama.

Honestly I didn't realize that the games were this year until a couple of weeks ago.

can't argue with that. I don't care about the human interest stuff because that's what fast forward button is for. But, I get really annoyed with NBC for not giving people the option of watching some events live rather than wait for the replay show. I prefer to just tape everythign live and then watch it when I get up on weekends or when I get home from work on weekdays.

I love the Olympics. I wish there were more eating challenges but they don't want sports that America dominates in in the Winter Olympics.

If the Olympics were in my back yard I would close the blinds.

definitely not ideal when it's on the other side of the globe. and if feels like the western hemisphere has gotten the shaft lately. 4 of the last 5 have been in Asia/Russia.

I went to the winter olympics in Albertville, France in 1992. It was fun.

I might watch some the next couple of weeks but it won't be on purpose.

I wonder if this is another event that will have better ratings than the NBA

Tell me which type of Chinese food you’ll be eating during the opening ceremonies and I’ll tell you why you’re wrong.

I can agree with this. I just can't believe its an Olympic event though. It seems like something drunk Canadians thought up while ice fishing.

Can't you say the same thing about golf, but you replace it with Scottish people bored in a field?

We can joke about golfers being non athletes and whatnot, but I don't think I'm going out on a real thin limb when I say that golf involves more sport and athleticism than curling.

If nothing else, you walk a hellava lot more in a professional round of golf.

Also, I'm pretty sure that is exactly how golf came about.

If i'm not mistaken, I think Curling was invented by the Scots. I remember that from my handful of curling excursions to Waltham Curling Club outside Mendota. They have a pretty cool clubhouse full of old curling memorabilia. Lots of fun to play, by the way.

Most of the olympics consist of people privileged in some form. Who the fuck has the time to train that much for no pay?

You are coaching next year shakes?

That is awesome.

One of my favorite all time stories here was when you regaled us with winning the Gold medal at the Maccabi Games.

I enjoy watching the Winter Olympics. The Summer Olympics, not so much.

I would have paid good money to see Boers and Bernstein do the two man luge.

Funny thing is that with every Winter Olympics, I still hear Jim McKay.

I don’t mind watching when I know some of the participants but I probably know more grammy contenders than U.S. stars.

isn't that natural though? I still hear Carey and Stone when I think of the cubs. And I mean Harry.
I like the olympics. I don't even mind knowing a little bit about the personal story or the athlete. I don't need anything ginned up to make me support the person mind you but know a bit about them is nice. The ski jump in person is amazing btw, at least 13 year old me thought so.

As MOFO mentioned I like the Biathlon, always impressed these people can control their breathing to fire a gun after going balls out on their skis. Speed skating on the long track I also enjoy quite a bit. I will not seek out coverage but if it is on may check it out. Not much fun trying to avoid seeing results of events that happened hours before the coverage.

Opening ceremonies on now. They caught Putin sleeping on camera.

Say what you want about China, but they know how to throw a party.
