I have decided to compete for China in the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics. This was an incredibly tough decision for me to make. I am extremely thankful for U.S. Ski & Snowboard ( @usfreeskiteam ) and the Chinese Ski Association for having the vision and belief in me to make my dreams come true. I am proud of my heritage, and equally proud of my American upbringings. The opportunity to help inspire millions of young people where my mom was born, during the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help to promote the sport I love. Through skiing, I hope to unite people, promote common understanding, create communication, and forge friendships between nations. If I can help to inspire one young girl to break a boundary, my wishes will have come true.

give her a break she has good intentions

She could have been a darling. Too bad I will have to root against her.

she apparently doesnt like money. she would have made a boatload more of it winning for team usa.

I’d bet decent money the Chicoms paid her to come to the realization she could inspire people to communicate by skiing for China.

yeah, i forgot china also uses money

https://nypost.com/2022/02/01/olympian-eileen-gu-competing-for-china-is-ruffling-us-skiers/

that says she already has 20 endorsement deals in china

that sucks...that's money that could have gone to apple, the scores of ex-politicians that lobby for china or the bidens.

really felt for mikaela shiffrin after her DNF in the slalom. she was shell shocked and handled her interview well for someone breaking down. i don't know how much the press will carry it because this olympics was DOA but it was pretty rough.

I just watched her "run" and I don't really know what happened as I don't understand the sport. Was she supposed to hit that second pylon with her body? If she misses like she did, isn't that just points off? Why did she just stop right there rather than continuing?

Is that the girl that her dad died? The slalom girl not the traitor.

Yeah her dad died 2 years ago. I’d be lying if I said I completely understood the discipline but it looks like she missed a “gate” that either would’ve disqualified her or just took her out of a medal run. I don’t think she “gave up” like Simone did (lol slalomsies) but I love this article that points out that Biles “sent a message of support” and literally it was a tweet that had 3 hearts and an @ in it.

We are truly seeing the generation of “everybody gets a trophy” backfire because none of these athletes know how to lose when they’re in these big spots, and recover.

So far only Shaun White has done it this Olympics.

It really is bizarre that "pressure" now seems to be an excuse in the Olympics. That's what you signed up for. You get one chance and then have to wait 4 years to try it again.

Blaming pressure is better than blaming everyone else like Mary Decker did.

i think schiffrin has several more opportunities for medals, she will win one and it will be a great story of overcoming adversity that will inspire millions.

I caught a little bit of luge the other night. Many of the men, especially the US, were simply happy to do their best. Full well knowing the Germans and others would smoke their ass one American was happy to be 8th and others simply to be on top of the standings even until the next run. I guess you really can't quit luge in the middle though.

I feel some of the more off the charts sports have similar spirits.

That certainly was a sad story about her dad. Even if you had to put aside that her parents were loaded to even allow the life they had to get her where she is.

hell yeah, was watching the qualifiers and saw White wipe out on that same spot as half a dozen riders before him on his earlier run, glad to see he made it through to the finals:

Fix yer snow, Chiner. Snowboard events have featured more wipe outs than successful runs. X-Games don't have as many issues with their tracks as the Chiners be havin'

I have a feeling, once the competitors are back in America and not worried about ending up in a Chinese work camp for the next 3 or 4 years, we will find out that the course conditions were incredibly poor. I think they said on one of the coverages that every single course is made up of only of created snow. You can see the top of the mountain behind them has absolutely no snow on any of it. The Chinese probably knew it too which is why they didn't let anyone on the course prior to the Olympics for "safety".

I watch a lot of Biathlon, and the commentators on that coverage, particularly the ex-biathlete they have calling it, mentioned the weird snow they are making over there, its unlike anything they have raced on before. He said it was like skiing on Styrofoam it was so dry and slow.

It looked like they were holding some ski jumping events next to an abandoned nuclear power plant. They slapped the olympic rings on the crumbling smokestacks.

yeah, that was weird. this state-of-the-art "Big Air" ski jump facility in the middle of a huge, bleak industrial complex. Beijing really captures the spirit of the games, a real winter wonderland.

Pretty soon we will do away with medals . Cant be singling people out for not being the best . Your Olympic diploma reply really isnt that far off.

Just give the medals to random transvestites and be done with it.

At this point you have to ask why that b.s. event merits money or attention. And this is coming from someone who tried to qualify for the Seoul Olympics.
