i don't know how reliable my junk google news algorithm is but at least twice a day so far in the past 5 days i've gotten headlines about spotify getting thousands of cancellations, neil young calling on employees to quit (are you gonna pay them, neil?), etc.

i know the media is one giant chicken little going full speed but i'd really be amazed if joe and spotify don't "part ways" by the end of this week.

It would be amazing to see rogan bail on spotify for a conservative platform. Would be a huge blow to mainstream media.

I have a Spotify app. It's motherfucking FREE. I sincerely doubt the PAID subscriptions have seen a huge downturn.

I was having breakfast earlier this week at a diner in Fort Wayne. The table next to me had 4 old guys that clearly got together regularly to discuss the issues of the day. At one point I heard one of them ask the others if they had heard about Joe Rogan. Two responded that they had no idea who he was. A 3rd knew he was in the news but didn't know where to "watch" him. The questioner noted that he had a bigger audience than the guy who replaced Rush, to which the others stated there wasn't a way to measure ratings for these things. None seemed to understand the concept of a podcast and there was zero chance they would attempt to learn anything about Rogan's program. It was mildly amusing.

Heard an advertising type who has done buys with Spotify doing a back of the envelope calculation on what Spotify's making on Rogan--Spotify (i)charges a premium to buy spots on Rogan's show and (ii) requires advertisers wanting space on Rogan to also buy ads on other Spotify properties. The guy figured Spotify covered the cost of the licensing deal with Rogan in the first 12 months of Rogan being exclusive to their platform. Gonna take every member of the RnR HoF pulling their music to match what Rogan brings to Spotify.

Looks like this was a win-win. We lose the N word podcasts but I think we can survive. There will be a message about guests who do blatant lies like the 46% statistic. Joe Rogan will probably add a fact checker for things like that. Democracy, free speech, and America win out along with corporate profit.

So it's a Democratic Governor who first shrugged off cancel culture based on race and paved the way for Morgan Allen, Joe Rogan et al
