just going by general retail prices i have been seeing lately compared to two years ago... its not good as it is. no sign of slowing soon, and prices never go back down.

i believe you are right, at least in the US and the five eyes nations. the central bank hates these things. but at the end of the day, the only way to really get rid of them is turn off the internet, which wont happen.

I remember carrying the mail into the house to my Grandpa, seemed every day brought another check. He was invested with a broker who specialized in construction bonds to large churches looking to build, many large, Christian Reformed congregations in the Grand Rapids area. He had some bonds returning over 15% fixed. He sure cried when they were able to call them back and replace with lower interest notes. Pretty good for a farmer with an eight-grade education who never made over $10K in one year working!

Was looking at a replacement tractor, guy quoted me a new one to compare to the lightly used ones. In 2 months the list price has gone up 9% and that's assuming the Deere engine works kicks off again so Klaus and Dieter have an engine to install in Mannheim with the parts shortages and UAW strike.

Anyway, I wish fertilizer prices were only a 9% increase.

It's all Russia's fault...it has nothing to do with Inflation or other economic issues that have been in play.

The move downward is mostly psychological. But in economic terms, higher interest rates should collapse multiples. Higher interest come from inflation.

For trading positions, I would add slowly to beaten down names. For long term holdings, like retirement money, you should always hold- the same message I delivered at the beginning of Covid.

I would not sell into this on your trading holdings. There is so much money floating around, I suspect things will snap back.

Will interest rates make a big move up?

Expectations are for four Fed rate hikes in 2022. That would be a 1% move in short term rates. The long end of the curve needs to move more. With quantitive easing coming to an end, that seems likely.

Cathie Woods (Ark Funds) just did a long form, live interview on CNBC. She presents a strong investment thesis focused on innovative companies. But her fund has been hammered of late. I am intrigued enough that I was thinking of throwing some capital her way. It is not my style to go after high growth companies.

I applaud her from taking tough questions.

i made 4 about equal purchases of arkk. i've sold all 4 lots. i lost 35% on the last one but made money on the first 3. barely on the 3rd lot. it wasn't in a retirement product.

I basically soured on her. she basically is successful because of 1 bitcoin decision and 1 tesla decision. everything else has been meh. even pre ARK she's not very impressive.

She prides herself on being able to answer the tough questions but her product has stunk hard and are shedding AUM. mid cap growth is like -2% past 365 days. ARKK....-52%.

Dollar cost averaging is a must, but 401(k)’s do that automatically. I am looking at some trading positions. Been eyeing Intel based on its dividend yield. Big turnaround story that is going to take a while to play out. On the newer tech side, I think PayPal may finally be a buy, but it still sports a $100B+ market cap. Facebook looks like an opportunity, but I do not use it and have seen lots of concerns over marketing spend migrating away from it due to Google and Apple privacy rules.

What scares me though is the Fed. Equities are about to get competition from bonds.
