One of my favorite players from the 1983 Winning Ugly Sox team.

RIP Juice.

I was there to see him score that famous winning run to clinch the division.

Yep, saw Kitty post about Julio's passing. Heroes of our yute started to drop like flies. :(

From the Sun-Times 3-24-87 after the Sox cut him.

They will pay him $300,000 for each of the next three years. Cruz then will receive $5.64 million in deferred payments for 15 years, beginning in 1994.

My friends and I met him during Spring Training in Sarasota in the mid-80s. This was when the players left the field and walked through the crowd to get to the locker room. That seems so odd now. JC was a real nice guy but apparently not a partier. He told us to go to Kittle when we asked where the players hung out at night. :drunken:

Damn! I still remember the night they clinched. Just remember hearing and watching the fireworks that night. We were outside as kids singing the Sox anthem immediately afterwards. They really took off after they traded Bernazard (one of my favorite players) for Julio Cruz. Damn!

I would probably agree that Jesus Christ was a pretty nice guy, but he did seem to like to party or at least have a big table with a lot of people at it.

Ron Kittle on with P & S and White Sox Talk Podcast. Says Cruz plagued with turf toe that hurt his game.

Cruz was a short term sparkplug. But, Tony Bernazard actually had a better rest of '83, and career, after the trade.
