Big mistake by the Packers. Let him walk and take the draft picks and rebuild. What they have been doing hasn't worked and now you just make it harder to retain other players as you hope that Rodgers continues to play at a high enough level to give the team a shot.

For that price you're gonna wish he was soon enough. 150+ guaranteed? Yeah. As a Bears fan i'm very glad to see the Packers made this move.

Not my money, I don't give a damn. Part of it is I am sure they are counting on a major jump in the cap in coming years also.

Agree with ya, they will be good enough to beat up on a weak division and win 12 games but never win a SB. They should have traded him, it was the best scenario for him and the team.

The cap should jump 15% or so.

That's just a tremendous amount of money to invest in a pretty old quarterback for too long a contract.

I am just curious as to how it is all worded and are there any outs, for either side.

Hard not to argue. This past season seemingly was their easiest road to the SB. #1 seed, inferior offense coming into Lambeau, snow, and Rodgers still manages only two scoring drives. That should have been the nail in the coffin.

Well... 150M+ guaranteed. Not sure there's much in the way of meaningful outs.
I predict...!

Rodgers' cap hit was going to be almost $47 million in 2022.

So maybe the new contract brings that number down by $15 million?

Even with that reduction, the Packers are going to have some cap issues for the coming season, especially since they need to re-sign Adams.

The only thing that would justify it would be another SB title. But that hasn't happened in over a decade so why try the same thing over and over again. I really don't know. Its not all that dissimilar from the Bears and Cutler back in the day when it was probably time to move on, but Emerey thought otherwise.

Paying more for declining returns is bad business. I don't give a shit either way, just stating a fact.

Some of this seems like denial... like they're not willing to admit to themselves that Rodgers will not win them a superbowl. I honestly think he won't.

He has had a number of chances to get back playing against teams that on paper are less talented than his own. Maybe there is another lucky Caleb Hanie pick 6 type play out there to benefit him, but I don't see it.

I think we really need to see how the Rodgers and Adams contracts are structured for 2022. If those deals give them enough room to bring back their key defensive players AND sign some good complementary players at receiver/tight end, the Packers will obviously have helped themselves in the short term.

It's definitely going to be another fascinating year. Rodgers had another great statistical season last year, but he didn't show the kind of transcendent ability that guys like Burrow, Allen and Mahomes showed in the playoffs. He's certainly fortunate that all of those guys play in the AFC.

All the key players will be back except Z Smith (who was a great signing but didn’t play last season so that’s not really an adjustment), a few backups, and possibly a 3rd or 4th receiver. All replaceable through the draft. The only guy I’m worried about losing is De’Vondre Campbell. Rasul Douglas was also a nice find who I’d like to see back but probably priced himself out & he’s not as critical as Campbell.

Everyone knows the NFL cap is a sham. That’s why I was surprised that Hub kept citing that as the reason the Rodgers and Adams wouldn’t be back. The same applies to the doomsayers regarding the future. This will bite them if Rodgers has a drop off or gets hurt in the next 2 seasons. After that they just juggle the books again along with the likely major boost in the cap from a new TV deal.
