From Phil Rosenthal in the 09/28 Chicago Tribune:

They did the mash: The Monsters are coming back.

Look for an announcement Monday that Comcast SportsNet Chicago is reuniting the old WSCR-AM team of Mike North and Dan Jiggetts for a live 6 to 9 a.m. show in early January.

"We were together eight years. That's longer than most people are together in their marriages," said North, who this month launched an online sports talk show, having walked away from WSCR in a pay dispute. "We had our ups and downs, like anyone else. … But we're going to do what we did on radio, only 10 times better."

Shit, if it's ten times better than his radio show, it should be worth $8 million!

So that means the webio wont be the new big thing come January? This "show" is a bad idea. I eat, sleep and live sports, but comcast is not on my early morning viewing. This whole thing will be over in 6 months, stupid thing to do on comcast part.

I'm not surprised that their morning ratings aren't good, and that they're throwing shit at the wall, to see what sticks. Consider this more fertilizer. But seriously, wouldn't it be more worth their while to shore up afternoon viewership?

Instead of North losing in the ratings to Mike & Mike on radio, he can now lose to them in the ratings on TV, too.

So people are really going to watch this from 6-9am? Is this show a competitor against the news shows that do traffic and weather?

I wonder if comcast will let mike push his dontfademe.com site on the show, I doubt it. I am sure pappy see's this as his way back to a huge contract from a radio station, this is going to be nothing more then a infomercial for pappy and jigs will be happy to just be gettiing a check, so he wont care.

Also, great idea on starting it in January, football is almost over, mike and jigs know nothing about basketball and jigs talking hockey is just not going to happen. So while this might have been a good idea 15 years ago, it isnt going to get people to stop their morning routine so they can listen to jigs and pappy talk about how great it was when the started out.

I can see it now.

Jen doing the weather
Jigs doing resteraunt reviews
mike on political news
Bookie Priest doing sports

Best thing about this show is at least we will be able to see the train wreck, plus pappys bad teeth, which is always something someone wants to see first thing in the morning

This will go away in a hurry. I can even say I am just not interested in seeing it. I never have watched TV in the morning and dont expect to start with this.

After a week of the show, don't be surprised to hear that North will be trying to push Jiggs out the door and just have the show to himself.

I bet this is a very cheap deal for Comcast. They don't need him as much as he needs them.

comcast has jiggs already under contract and instead of just eating it, they are trying to catch lightning in a bottle by giving him and north this gig. north will crow about this until the cows come home, but he will never mention how little he is being paid. how will they draw male 25-54 demo when they are all at work ? the answer is they won't and when jiggs deal is up, say adois to this crap fest.

It sure seems like they are working to get this as a local version of the Mike and Mike simulcast on the deuce. That really is the only way this makes sense.

So the great Internet innovator and visionary is already abandoning the webio show for the more conventional medium of television? Man, he's all over the place, isn't he? And, yeah, I'm sure the gorgeous Jen will have an on-camera role. Of course, anything that reduces the screen time for North's ugly mug is a plus.

Mike, get your story straight for once?

What about the non compete?

His "non compete" all of a sudden is over in january, which of course is the last month of his webi show, when that happens, i am sure the internet will be for people with pants around ankles again.

I dunno, but i give this comcast thing about 4-6 months.

Well, the show had a chance...before Jen and Bebe got involved. Now it's really done...

'Monsters of the Morning' to Debut in 2009

Chicago, IL (September 29, 2008) – Chicago morning television will never be the same again as two of the most popular personalities in Chicago sports media history will reunite for a new, live Monday through Friday morning show on Comcast SportsNet beginning in early 2009.

Mike North, two-time Emmy winner and one of the most colorful and outspoken individuals to ever grace the Chicago airwaves and Dan Jiggetts, former Chicago Bears standout with a 25-year career in sports broadcasting, join forces once again for a new, three-hour (6:00 AM - 9:00 AM), live weekday morning show entitled Monsters of the Morning on Comcast SportsNet.

“We are very excited to welcome Mike North to his new home,” said James J. Corno, President of Comcast SportsNet Chicago. “He and Dan made a fabulous team on radio for many years and we’re confident Chicago sports fans will appreciate what they will bring to local morning television beginning next year.”

“I am honored and thrilled to say the least about this amazing opportunity in my career,” added North. “To be associated with Comcast SportsNet and their strong programming line-up, including the White Sox, Cubs, Blackhawks and Bulls, is a dream come true for a kid from Chicago. Plus, my 79-year-old mother can now watch me on TV five days a week.”

North and Jiggetts spent eight years together as co-hosts of the popular “Monsters of the Midday” program on WSCR AM 670 during the 1990s. In the coming weeks, Comcast SportsNet will announce more details and provide additional information about the new Monsters of the Morning show leading up to its early 2009 debut.

Listen, if Mike and Jigs do well, I am all for it, thats great, but a few things.

1. This show isnt about the both of them, its about Mike and Mike isnt going to give up a ounce of the spotlight.

2. I recall pretty clearly the last few years of their radio show was bad, so the genius at comcast decide to put them on tv, could they find two less appealing people, one with bad teeth and a obese guy who might drop dead of a heart attack at anytime?

3. This is going to be a train wreck, I am all for giving chances, but this going to be the MNMS on tv, same crap. As much as I listen to the webio, there is no way I am watching this as I am sure others wont. Jen is now going to produce a morning tv show, Jigs is the new fred and Mike is going to continue to do things that just are bad, just not in his mind.

4. I am sure this is a 1 year deal, blew a call into comcasts pr dept. and they didnt want to give that info out, but according to someone else over there that I know, she is sure its a one year deal.

5. I am stunned Jim Corno did this deal.

Bottom line, comcast will grow tired of the overbearing, stupid logic of Mike North and the show will be gone after one year.

Talked with someone today and its for sure Norths show to drive, Jigs has very little say in this venture, that was North demand. My guy said he will call me tonight with some specifics, but for sure, this is peanuts for pappy compared to what he was making, Pappy just wants to be on tv, thats his whole thing, needs to have his mug out there.

Jigs deal hasnt changed, he is working on old paper here, so dont expect much effort from Jigs. My buddy says they are giving this show a shelf life of 8-10 months. I didnt and wont ask about how much he is making on this deal, dont care, not my business, but I am curious how long they have hitched themselfs to pappy.

8-10 months is probably 4 months than I would give such a show. But no doubt they had to tell Papi something. Even so, they must be getting 0 ratings in the morning right now. If they get any traction, it'd be for the better.

Isn't the station owned by the Sox, Bulls and Blackhawks. If so JR threw Mike a bone.

If they had any brains at all they would dress Jiggles in sexy outfits and have her do weather and traffic like that bimbo on the NFL pre game show.

The show could be very good in the hands of the correct producer. They should send Mike out to do some whacky man on the street segment every day. His Northside segments on Fox several years ago were entertaining. On the other hand, if this is anything like his Basta Pasta shows, this thing is doomed.

Three hours is going to be difficult to fill.

Let's see, in January:

Cubs: done
Sox: done
Bulls: prolly decent but Nort is a basketball ignoramus
Hawks: good but Jiggs knows nothing about hockey
Bears: decent and both should converse ok, Jiggs more intelligently than Nort

So to sum it up, this'll be a 3 hour Bears report...they should run out of material by say day number two...eeeeeee.
