Nothing smelled worse than the fucking County Fair stables with the show calves. Everybody brought those chests with their stuff and sat on them for the whole day like it was a fun place to hang out.

I was never meant to be a farmer.

I would have bet a lot of money. A lot...that I would not read a Shaun Cassidy reference today.

Then they donate it to 4-H or FFA and run it through the ring a second time. The lockers and poultry processing facilities are a sight. And smell on a warm July day. Make sure you arrive when the rendering truck is there.

I remember the girls with their Aquanet and combs, styling their steers' puffs of tail and whatever hair. Some would put ribbons on the dumb animals. And after they sold them at auction and the trailers showed up to take them to slaughter the girls would be bawling their eyes out, "Not Petunia, nooo!" and then they'd go to the midway and have a burger and shake and feel better.

It was a bit much. I'm still going to eat chicken but....not going to think about it too hard.

I rarely eat pork now remembering watching a hog slaughter as a yout. Actually it's starting to extend to all meat. Almost.

Pretty much everything you eat is killed.

It’s an experience. I will say row crop, which would include the beans you’d need instead of animal protein is not great shakes either. But I struggle with it as a producer and consumer on a personal level
So I get it. There are days I could see giving up meat but they are few, although becoming more frequent. I think if I was to give up the meats, poultry would be the last I’d give up.

Went to high school in a small town where we had plenty of farm girls, still miss the tight Chic jeans and big hair.

These girls were quite sought after during my WIU days by the members of the male species as they tended to be surprisingly adventurous after a few wine coolers, in fact we found buying a case of strawberry wine coolers or a few bottles of Boones Farm or Arbor Mist made for a productive night if you had a few small town girls showed up at the party.

Do appreciate whoever keeps this site going, it provides some of us with a much needed few minutes in the sandbox after a few days of insanity at work.

There isn't a sandbox shortage. Luckily for this place, Consumer Reports doesn't do Top Ten Most Reliable Sandboxes.
