I watched the news reports of DePaul's women's team going to the NCAA Tournament. A very good portion of the team didn't look to be in better shape than a paper bag headed CFMB member at a backyard party

I used to frequent a gym where a couple of Division I All-American women's players would routinely get eviscerated by above average (but not great) male college pickup players.

Women players have improved a lot in recent years, but they're still not very good.

That said, a CFMB squad would get destroyed by Women's DII players.

Is this a cohesive team or just a hodgepodge of low tier college players?

I played Doug Higgins, UofI kicker, in a pickup game 30 years ago or so at the UofI rec center.

He was legit fantastic at basketball and he was the kicker on the football team. He was probably 3 inches shorter than me and kicked my ass. And I was at one time pretty good.

Only because everyone here is old now. The CFMB basketball team was better fifteen years ago.

Who is the guy here who had stories of taking on Todd Sauerbraun in racketball?

Midget.

I think he secretly wanted to be Todd’s friend.

My mental image of Todd Saurbrun playing racquetball always lands at....THE ERADICATOR!

I see him kicking the racquetball so hard it bounces off the walls for about 42 seconds.

Then he remembers he has a racket.

I used to play racquetball at the same club as Sauerbrun and some other guys affiliated with the Bears. But the story you guys are thinking of concerns how he got outplayed--and mentally dismantled by--a 14-year old in the state tournament one year. It was absolutely hilarious and culminated with Todd smashing a couple of his top-of-the line (and very expensive) racquets on the court walls and erupting in a profanity-laced tirade.

I can see why we'd have trouble with D1

we probably need a 15 man roster to rotate and keep guys fresh to make up for our lack of conditioning, but to answer the question yes and easily.

Dated a former DI women's player for a bit, she could hold her own in pickup games with guys because she was just as strong as most of them could get 8-10 legit free weight bench reps with 135 lbs, was kind of cute, she knew a lot about basketball but little else.

Think she ended up teaching PE and coaching somewhere in the suburbs.
