A couple minutes inside and the outside of the half were a little head scratching. "Two freshmen better not fuck this up". But then things got back to the normal ass whooping.

All my teams are gone. Sigh. But as a long suffering Bears fan, I tend to draw more satisfaction from teams like UIUC losing than ND winning. A sad existence for sure.

Two thoughts through the first weekend

1. Even though my rooting interest is gone, lot of entertaining games out there - close calls and fun upsets.

2. The basketball has been bad overall. Is that because of the basketball? Is that because of the AAU culture? Not sure. But watching some of these games has been bad.

Gonzaga is fun. Timme is 34 years old and they have a guard that chest shoots like a 7th grader.

When you have 1/3rd of the players incessantly pulling up for three pointers it can be bad basketball. Spot up shots are one thing, 30% shooters pulling up on the break is another.

easy to pick on the officiating.

i believe the ncaa killed any true cinderella types (sub .500 teams that win their con. champ) with the shot clock. the t.v. timeout greed has now benefitted the lesser teams with stoppages that usually cut the flow of the better teams.

the other glaring issue is that the players certainly prefer practicing float passes/subsequent dunks to free throws.

the ncaa's quest for sportsmanship and to eliminate the punking and taunting seems to have gone the nhl-way. the 2nd guy always gets caught and his team gets punished.

I hear people complain a lot about the level of play. I don't really get it. It is college. I am not expecting NBA level play. And that does not take away from my enjoyment of watching at all. Sure things have changed over the year, but such is life.

Do you get the same enjoyment watching a 59-53 Texas Tech v. Notre Dame game as you do an 85-80 Arizona v. TCU game? I know I don't. Watching two teams brick their way to a 27-24 score at the end of the first half is pretty brutal.

yeah actually I do, I enjoyed both games. I don't need really good offense to enjoy the game.

I can enjoy a 1-0 pitching duel just like I can enjoy a 12-11 Homerun fest.

There's bunches of guys who play like there's a gun to their moms' heads. It's just a game. St Peters doesn't give a fuck. They're there to dance like hell to whenever the music goes off. If their opponents want to go poopoo in the pants, that delights them even more.

yes, that's the no-no. not nice to say that...they are kids, after all. when you see 3 guys from the same team jump and fight over the same defensive rebound...yes, you know that fear permeates that team. lots and lots of players are tight.

Me too. A lot of the times it is good defense too. Sometimes it's Wisconsin holding and grabbing for the whole game pretending to play good defense.

A low scoring baseball game is usually, though not always, the result of good pitching. Too many low scoring college basketball games are the result of an inability to hit open shots or complete point blank layups.

I had Kentucky winning the whole thing, but still had a glimmer of hope of finishing in the money (three final four teams), but Gonzaga seems hell bent on snuffing those hopes.
