What dolphin said is correct. There are legitimate questions to be asked of a nominee. You're right that many senators- especially those with presidential aspirations- use these hearings as you say. But I hope you would agree there's a HUGE difference between asking questions about a candidate's judicial record and grilling a nominee on how many beers he drank on a Tuesday night when he was in high school.
