What dolphin said is correct. There are legitimate questions to be asked of a nominee. You're right that many senators- especially those with presidential aspirations- use these hearings as you say. But I hope you would agree there's a HUGE difference between asking questions about a candidate's judicial record and grilling a nominee on how many beers he drank on a Tuesday night when he was in high school.

I think you'd also agree that there's a huge difference between drinking beer and attempted rape. I'm sure you believe he was completely innocent and that's fine, but don't pretend that getting him to profess his love for beer was at the heart of the questioning.

I've always tried to stay away from making from of July's looks, and for the most part I think I've done a good job. But I have got to note that when she specifically mentions things like clothes and food as being cost-prohibitive in returning to a commute, I can't overcome the feeling that she's inviting—knowingly or subconsciously I'm not sure—trolls to respond with invective focusing on her physical appearance.

You had to figure at some point that some case, if not this one, was going to cause issues. Eventually, if the twitter wild west of journalism is going to report as they do a reckoning will come to restore balance. Hopefully anyway. Too bad it is some asshat like Bauer to bring it.

I don't have an opinion on Bauer one way or another, but the point is that the only reason you characterize him as an "asshat" is because of reporting that may not be accurate. I assume you've never met him.

You saw this writ large with DRUMPF. Maybe these are bad people, but when so many stories about them have so many inaccuracies or turn out to be outright false, you probably should be questioning what you're reading.

Think of the greatest person you ever met. If the legacy media and most of Twitter constantly beat the drum that that person was a piece of shit, what do you think popular opinion would be?
