Rock's reaction is odd. There is no way you don't hit somebody back or back away from Smith as he is approaching.

Jada is pulling all the strings.
She broke down his masculinity on television during a talk about why she cheated on him. Her excuse was “If he loved me enough he would’ve known”.
I think that Will Smith whole heartedly did not care about the joke Chris Rock made at the Oscars, but Jada looks over at Will once the camera pans away, as if to say
“if you dont stand up for me, this is why i cheated”

My wife and I were having this exact discussion 90 minutes ago. She's lost a lot of respect for Will and it's only left me thinking that this is a good thing for an open, healthy discussion of the points on both sides. It in part changed my own opinion and trust that it has for others

Given his high profile comic status, I'm sure he caught much worse coming up. I think that his reaction was appropriate. I'm certain he's doing much better than Will Smith now and will for the next few days

The 5 minutes of thought I've invested in this already is 5 minutes too much.

Will and Jada...the Scientologists who aren't really Scientologists....have zero credibility for anything and have been frauds for years. I'm guessing that has an awful lot to do with the idea that this was a work.

Yawn on the whole thing.

Make it 6-7 minutes with the thoughts you have added here about the subject(that you don't care about).

Guilty as charged. Fine.

I shall now resume my focus on finding quality Foo Fighters songs to get excited about.

It's nice to have a discussion about something other than politics or the crap in Ukraine (Or the weirdo Deshaun Watson). Will Smith's contribution for the week.

It’s immediately a top notch meme template, so there’s that.

Another example of women being the reason why a man did something stupid in the name of honor. A rehearsed and likely pre-approved joke (that was harmless) upset Jada to the point of getting her laughing husband to assault a friend of theirs on the night he was winning a major award.

He had his hands behind his back and somewhat braced for impact. He even dropped his chin like he was supposed to do.

He carried himself like a professional. Someone who has been in entertainment for 30 years should know how to conduct themselves when they are interrupted.

It is pretty funny that within an environment where asking a person where they're from or using the name their mother gave them before they "became a woman" is considered VIOLENCE that whacking someone in the head and then motherfucking him is no big deal.

OMG! Can you imagine what would have happened if Will slapped Ricky Gervais or Seth MacFarlane!?!?!?!?

But no, seriously, someone probably should have slapped those guys.

I'd totally get it if she was a hairdresser you met on set or studio attorney or some other industry-adjacent person who isn't really "in The Business", but "keep my wife's name out of your mouth" sounds a bit weird when your wife is also a movie star.

I get it if someone at a bar or someone makes a stupid comment about Seacrest's wife. He was at a highly scripted award show with a comedian speaking. How many more comedians is he going to "slap" in the next year?

Since we enjoy The who has agency and who doesn’t talk, Rock read some Oscar approved joke off a teleprompter. Who else should Will slap.
